Is your heating ON or OFF?

  • My bathroom is probably chilliest- there's a draught coming in from somewhere I haven't found yet - I think it's round the overflow pipe!
Warms up when the heating comes on enough to make getting in the shower bearable!
I've got blinds and curtains drawn on all other windows.

Am managing to keep my little house warm enough with the CH on an hour in the morning and an hour at night. If it gets cold I stick another jumper on. I got a letter from British Gas today saying that my gas is going up in price so I'm trying to keep the usage low.
I won't go as far as switching it off though. The pilot light on the boiler went out last Thursday so no heating in the morning. It was brisk to say the least!

We had ice on the inside of the porch on Sunday but the rooms we sit and sleep in are warm, I think the coldest room is the conservatory unless the sun is shining when it can be the warmest room. Right now the heating has gone off so I am off to bed before it get's too cold to undress.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Off, but with regret! I'd like to curl up in the warmth today, but its a kithen day I think (freezer baking, some stock on think I might make a beef stew too) so I should just stay in there and keep warm. I've already made the dogs sty in there, despite it being the warmest room they'd rather be in the reception room they think of as 'theirs'' but its much colder there. I'm going to call the cats into the kitchen and see how much we can get done this morning, and then turn heating on this afternoon if I feel I need to. I will put it on for a while much later come what may as I don't want the pipes to freeze overnight, but I suspect I'll be turning it on this evening or late afternoon anyway as wn't be doing much labour intensive/warmth inducing housework today. I might get some ironing done though before the heating goes on!

23rd Spiral I'm suprised at you having the heating on for so long!! :)
I've just upped mine from just 1 hour in the evening to 1 hour when I get home and 1 hour when my housemate gets home as he works outside and comes home freezing. I don't bother in the morning cause it makes me get up and moving quicker. The heating is usually set to 17.5degrees, but the temperature has been about 7ish when the heating isn't on. Colder in the bathroom cause we've got a condensation/mould problem at the moment so have to keep it ventilated until the extractor fan is put in.

I've left mine on all day even though I'm not there.

Partly because I was worried about the pipes freezing, but more importantly because the dog looked absolutely freezing and it's not fair to leave him in an Arctic house.

Looking forward to a nice warm/boiling house when I get home this eve- not looking forward to the subsequent gas bill tho!

  • We section the house! When the whole house is in use the bedrooms are 10 C, with the livingroom about 15 C!!

At night we close the livingroom, bathroom and kitchen off and just heat the bedrooms... at which point they raise to about 14 C!!

The bathroom is always the coldest.... especially when we close the door!!!

Well I'm ruddy frozen today :(

My lounge thermometer is a showing a paltry 14ºC, and I'm just going to have to go out for a brisk walk in an attempt to warm my body up.

It's making a truly pathetic attempt at snowing here in Dorset today - or at least the part of Dorset I'm in - so I don't even have that to cheer me up.

Hopefully I'll feel in a better mood and more importantly, warmer after some brisk exercise
