If i was by myself then the heating would still be off, but unfortunately living with a group of wimps means the heating on. Back to school and work tomorrow so the heating will stay off till about 6.00pm but i will turn it off asap without the wimps nowing. Would have joined you in trying to keep it off till december. Good luck those who are going to give it a try.

I would have ours on but as happened last year the new boiler has died so we are yet again without heat and hot water. No pennies to fix it either!

Good luck! I'm going to keep an eye on this thread to see how long people make it. :)
Thanks! Like Mrsr says, it's ok while it's still quite mild but it's a different story once it gets really cold!

Have you tried turning down the flame on your boiler, and perhaps keeping the radiators on a low setting (esp bedrooms/hallway/kitchen/bathroom)?

My bills used to be horrendous; Its made all the difference to me.
Thanks Sublime, I will try this when it goes on. I only really spend time in the sitting room so not too fussed about the other rooms.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I put the heating on before, half hour later went up stairs to find everybody in t shirts, ran downstairs switched the heating off and told them very loudly that next time they complained of being cold they could put a jumper on, or words to that effect.

This is easy, apart from our lapse last week (for 2 mornings), the heating remains off, we didn't even feel the need to put the convection heater on the lounge over the weekend.

Did my ears deceive me or did I hear on the TV that temps could hit 18deg on Thursday in the South?

If so it looks like another week of no heating!

And still off here aswell happy0065.gif. Made it to Nov and havent been in need of the heating hardly at all. Like someone else said (sorry its too early and I've forgotten already) I shall keep going and see how long I can make it but if it gets too chilly I will be putting it on. I try and keep it off as long as poss at this end of winter as our cold weather (and quite often snow) can last well into March here.

Suspect I will need to get some gas for my gas heater so will be trying to get that this week just in case.

Hope everyone is well and not too cold

  • I have had a couple of days when it has been freezing and had to put it on but generally I have done without. I have a log burner and have run out of logs and no £ to get anymore so I think the heating will have to go on. Today it is sunny so I make sure I stay in the sun and the front of the house is warmer. The back is colder. My test is when my nose is absolutely freezing and when my hands are utterly unable to function as hands should!!!

I dont think I shall last out till December though! I had an elderley aunt who wouldnt put the heating on until below freezing. The house was always cold and damp but she didnt notice!

I got up this morning feeling very powerful. I finally had the option to flick a switch - the central heating switch - but I didn't need to. It is mild here with a bit of sun - so once again I won't be switching the heating on.
I would like to thank everyone on this thread for their support, encouragement, hints and tips. Without you guys I would have given a lot of money to Eon by now - instead I get to save it for the cold, snowy days.
    Enjoy your day.
