I had a tree fell down in my garden this week. I think it was an old apple tree that was long since dead but acted as a great framework for ivy and a clematis to grow up. It fell against the washing line, garage wall and fence and I was very worried it was going to do some damage and I had to pay a garden firm £100 to remove it. Admittedly they came first thing the next morning and removed all of it, including all of the ivy growing up it and even rescued the base of the clematis. If I had a wood burning stove I would have been in heaven at a windfall of all of that free wood.

I have hankered after a 'burn all' stove now for a long time. I am very happy with my gas central heating but it would be lovely to have a stove to have several 'free' nights a year as supplementary heating or for additional heat when 'cold' family members are staying and especially at Christmas. I seem to be regularly coming across 'free' wood. However, I don't think the cost of installing a burn all stove and repalacing my inset gas fire would be worth it so I will just have to move house and put a stove on my list of essentials.
  • I went to bed last night and the bed was damp, and so is the wall!!!!

I always try to get to October 1st!!! So today the heating will go on... but since I don;t have central heating like more normal people.... I can either have it on of off... we are putting it on for 2 hours at night to keep the damp at bay... it'll be on low though... and will stay there all year! We'll just add time rather then heat as the year progresses!

Hopefully this will help my Osteo arthritis too... because boy do I hurt!!!

Oh and it'll help keep the mould at bay... which is more dangerous then then heating bill!!!
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

Ours is still off at the moment - the main reason is I cant get to the controls, as I had a new cupboard put in and the freezer is in front of them, the workmen were to come back and move the control panel but havent returned yet, so we have been putting on our electric fire in the sitting room for an hour in the evening. Hopefully this weekend I will get access to the controls, as I have decided to bring the small freezer out of the garage and put it in there and put the tall one out in the garage - it will save the workmen coming back and also save me another £80 as that is the cost of moving the controls! Hopefully we caqn hold off another few days, but the forecast is wet and cold for our area over the next few days

Oooooooh its expected to be a chilly night in most places tonight - mine is on but on low... Thermostat clicked in earlier but it didn't take long to get warmish, rads were only on for about 30 mins i think before it clicked off.

I hate a hot house anyway as I get enough hot flushes to keep warm most of the time and when I am cold, a quick blast of exercise on the floor warms me up :D

When my Mum comes she never takes off her big fleece which I notice she doesn't wear in her own house! I think she freezes when she comes here LOL

Still off for me too, although I'm sitting here with fleece on and socks. Been pouring with rain all day and got well and truly soak as I was about London doing survey, but it's not been too chilly today.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
  • Our's is still off, we're on useless storage heaters and I don't turn them on until absolutely necessary. Once they're on they tend to stay on until spring.

The nice gas safety inspection guy came out today. Everything is working as it should. Glad to say that he turned the heating off again after he had tested the system.
