Is your heating ON or OFF?

I'm with Caterina, although I foolishly had the windows wide open for some nice fresh air. Boy, was it cold! So, the heating is on for now, on the timer, so it should go off in a couple of hours. By then I hope the temp will have crept up to above 12 degrees Centigrade0

it peaked during the cold snap when it was on all day nearly. Recently I've had it on for an hour or two in the mornings and the occasional evening. Sometimes I light the fire (I have a free supply of coal to use up), mainly at weekends as it takes a good while to emit much heat and on weeknights it seems I'm off to bed as soon as it gets going!
We've been having lovely sunny days that have heated up the front rooms in the house but the mornings have been very frosty and cold so not sure if I'm ready to switch off the CH morning timer just yet. If I turned it off on March 10th, that would be 4 whole months I've had it on. Crazy really but I didn't want my pipes (or me) to freeze!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I had my brand new gas fire fitted today! So am going to be having this on low/high tonight.
I am correct in thinking this will be somewhat cheaper than the central heating?
My first winter, in this house [my first ever house!] so am always careful when it comes to bills! :A0 -
The recent sunshine outside has been quite deceptive. Sunny it may be, but warm it isn't. Now we have an energy monitor I'm even more very conscious about the bills, but the first of my little vegetable seedings are now on the windowsill and they need some warmth to germinate, so don't like to let the heating levels drop too low.0

FREE COAL! Good Lord, with these temps and free coal I'd be minded to bank the fire up and leave it burning overnight. You most definitely need a fire-guard but imagine the toasty warmth in the morning. Oooh, lovely!0 -

Primrose, you are so right about the deceptive weather! When DH and I saw all that lovely sunshine on Saturday we nearly put our lily plants outside (they have been living in our bedroom over the winter as they suffer the cold). Just as well we didn't as there was such a frost the next morning (yesterday) that it would have surely killed them! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I switched mine off yesterday as was really warm in the evening and even had the windows open during the day.
Today has been so cold though with strong winds, I went outside at work earlier to make a phonecall and couldn't believe how cold it was! The heating has gone back on tonight as despite 2 pairs of socks, 2 tops and a throw i'm still cold so need heating up. Most nights I can 'warm myself up' by running round cleaning, but tonight I need to do some job applications, so there won't be much movement. Tea helps, but I think I may be addicted to it.
It's off completely in the morning now, but will keep it on in the evenings for around 90 minutes - 2 hours and see how it goes.

Our gas heating is still on. Despite quite a bit of sun over the last few days, it is still cold. I would rather pay the bills then get ill, having had pneumonia and pleurisy and being hospitalised a few years ago.

No one is talking about sitting in the cold to make yourself ill, that would be silly. Just good MSE idea's we can share or a chat about we are upto in our own homes. If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0
