Don't put the heating on to keep him happy - make him freeeeeze!

I try to switch my heating off on March 1 until Nov 1 apart from when I have visitors. I managed it 2 years ago but last year it was stretched a bit either side. I switched off on March 1 this year but on 4th it was so cold I switched back on though only for an hour in the morning and about 2 hours in the evening.
I think that a more realistic target would be to go with the clock change ie to switch off when the clocks go forward at the end of March and to switch on when the clocks go back in October. I will let you know how I get on. In the meantime I am only switching on the heating if temp inside drops below 12 degrees. I can cope with that by wearing extra clothing.0 -
I got woken up at 7am this morning with a nice cup of coffee. Oh went down to let the dog out. After saying thankyou the next sentence was "can you put the fire on?" it was a bit cold to sit up with the coffee as CH comes on for 1 hour at 8am in the mornings.
No heating at all in the house though now and not to cold as the sun is out sending some heat through the windows. Slow cooker on too so there is heat there. Our house is so well insulated
Just going to put the washing on as that can go on the line in an hour.
Must also open the conservatory door as that gives loads of free heat when the sun shines like today.:)
Nope, no conservatory door to open just yet! It is 10C in there so need to wait till it it hotter, maybe this afternoon.
The house is 19C as I have some windows open to let the air in.
Oh and I were saying with not having the ch on so much it is not drying out our skin, just my hands are very dry and keep cracking. That is more likely to washing up and cleaning. I have also not had a cold so far this winter.
2.30pm, it is still 19C indoors and 21C in the conservatoy.
I brought the washing in at 4pm, just damp now. I put it on the airer.
6pm it started to get dark but as we were only watching TV I did not put the lights on till 6.45pm and then went around and closed all curtains.
I hope all this money saving shows up on the electric bill when I read the meter tomorrow.
Ch on 6-9pm as usual. Not quite warm enough to do without just yet!If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

My parents came for coffee after church so put the fire on for 30 minutes. Church was freezing so wanted to warm them up before the journey home. It's off now, washing out and upstairs windows open. We have managed 2 days this week with no heating on and reduced the time it was on the other days. Hoping to see the usage go down now.

Afternoon All,
I have turned by heating off for the past week. As it's an old boiler the timer will only come on if it's set twice, so i've turned it off and will just switch it on when/if necessary.
I haven't really notice it being cold in the morning, i'm normally up and out in 45mins so just move quicker! However, of an evening i've waited to between 6-7pm before resorting to the heating, some nights i've been so busy i haven't put it on at all.
Tonight, i will pop it on for an hr or two just bcos house is getting quite cold in general, but currently got the oven on cooking a banana bread loaf so that helps and once i've had a shower i leave bathroom door open so the hot air can get out and about.
Feels good to be saving money and being all cuddly in an extra fleece!!0 -
Today I saw the sunshine and thought that we would not need the heating on. I left the curtains up in the bedroom (south facing) and went out for the day. Unfortunately on my way back I had to stand in a freezing cold wind for a long time as the first bus was full and it took the second one ages to come in, so as soon as I came home ON went the heating!
But my bedroom is nice and warm from the sun (makes no difference to the heating because I always keep the bedroom radiator off, even in the middle of winter).
So much for hoping to switch everything off by 1st March! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
i had mine for about hour and half this morning as it was very cold and frosty even if the sun was shining but only the radiators in the front room and hallway, i then switched it on again about 4.30 and went off at 6.30. i just wish it would warm up!!:)I will lose 2 stone by this summer!!!!!!0
