Is your heating ON or OFF?

Indeed! In fact last night I walked into a very cold bathroom and thought of my poor DH who wakes up very early and would have a shower in the freezing cold, so I asked him to put it on the clock again so that at least he can go into a reasonably warm bathroom in the morning. He was most appreciative!
Also I have found that when the bathroom temperature is freezing cold I tend to linger longer under the shower so the savings go down the drain, instead when it is reasonably warm I do not mind a very quick shower.
What we have decided is to keep it on for 1 hour in the morning but not bother in the evening, as we can make do with the woodstove and the hot water bottle in the bed (in any case we never have it switched on in the bedroom).
So really it goes to show that the road to hell is paved with good intentions LOLFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I moved into my flat on the 21 June 2008. In the December of 08 I signed up to a monthly payment plan of £33 per month. On Saturday I received a letter from EDF saying I was getting a £281.90 refund!0

My central heating is still ON but on the timer - 7.00am-9.00am and 7.00pm-11.00pm with the thermostat set at 21deg (open plan living room, stairs to one side and no entrance hall).
IF the weather gets very cold during the day, I'll 'fast-forward' the timer.
IF we have very young/elderly visitors (ie grandkids or my mum), I fast-forward the timer.
We DO have an electric fire but would never dream of using it - apart from the flame effect when we have visitors.
I had been hoping to be able to turn the c/h off altogether on 1st March, but it's still too cold early/late in the day to do that just yet; but I am considering reducing the length of time that the timer is in operation.0 -
I put the heating on at 2 and just switched it off! Feels much colder today as there is no sun:sad:
On the plus side...I didn't have to scrape the windscreen this morning, and I've dried the washing outside this afternoon!Less is more0 -
Barely resisting with the heating off, been working all afternoon on the computer and my hands are frozen - thanks goodness for the continuous cups of tea to warm my fingers! Funny enough, the rest of the body does not feel so cold (it must be because I am so well padded! LOL). Glad I am persevering with no heating at least during the day and evening, even if I have caved in for the morning.
Off to cooking soon and as soon as DH comes in the woodstove will go on!Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

I have no hot water or heating as the boiler has packed up (3 weeks ago now:(). We have had problems getting hold of a trustworthy and reliable plumbr. We at last got it looked at yesterday and he feels it will be an expensive repair and advises replacing. It is only 4 1/2 years old. We are looking at £1,500 for a decent one and fitting. We have also received an invitation from the original boiler company to take out cover it is tempting but we will need to wait another 4 weeks before we can make a claim. Hubby is wanting to change it I think but we are quite likely to move house in the not too distant future. We are used to the heating off now but I'd love regular showers again!:o:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

well i cant say i didnt give it a try. Ive got storage heaters and i switched them all off and im cold tonight. So one will go back on in the lounge overnight tonight. Im in a catch 22. If i turn them off i havnt got any back up heating and i also stand my washing infront of them to dry it. So if the main one isnt on my washing takes ages to dry or i have to use a tumbledrier, which defeats the object of moneysaving. I might as well make use of the heat from the storage heater to warm the room and dry my washing.0

Well I'm keeping my heating on for as long as I need it. I'm not going to be a martyr to the cold. The house is so draughty that without the heating on it would be as cold as being outside.0
