Is your heating ON or OFF?

It is absolutely freezing here tonight! The cars are already frosted and you can see your breath when you breathe outside! Not going to turn the heating up though just keeping it low to make sure my DD is not too cold. Tonight may be the night for the snuggly blanket and hot water bottle!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Hi, Its really cold here in the north east of scotland. When I was on my way home tonight at about 8pm, the temperature went down to 1.5 degrees in the car. Our heating is on, I get sore heads when its too cold.0

I really 'feel' for all you folks up in Scotland - I know what the weather can be like there at this time of year. Had a week in Aviemore late November one year and experienced night-time temps that I had never felt in my life (apart from inside my freezer:eek:) fortunately that particular hotel was triple-glazed!
My DS1, his g/f and my cousin are all going fishing at Loch Venacher next week and will be sleeping in their 'bivvies' at the side of the loch at night - personally I think they are being a little over-optimistic about this AND have told them so. But, of usual, what do I know about fishing - absolutely zilch - but I do know about Scottish weather. My money is on them going looking for a B&B after the first night :rotfl:.0 -
My son is the opposite Ollie - the way he goes on about the weather in the south of England you'd think it was Australian Outback.
Well, I am revolting. After reading how the elect is set to rise by up to 60%, I am ditching my elect hob/oven, and going back to LPG gas for cooking. We do get a lot of power cuts here, but the main reason is that if I buy several gas bottles, then I have enough for a couple of years, & it's bought and paid for at todays prices. I won't have a bill and it wont be going up every week . We are going to keep putting by the same amount for elect and then we can see how long it takes the new cooker to pay for itself. I had a calor gas cooker for years and years and found it terrific, I can't wait to get back to it0 -
Oh, it's on, on, on here, mostly mornings and evenings though, coz it's flippin' freezing! In the daytime the house gets nice and warm as we are south facing at the back, so all my washing nearly dries as well.
The bill will probably be heartstopping but I so hate the cold.0 -
Mine is OFF at the moment. I am really surprised and impressed with my sister and nephew who are visiting this weekend as they have agreed to put on extra layers instead of asking for the radiators to go on :A. Mind you, I am the only one actually UP and dressed so far today, they are both still tucked up in bed and when I checked if they wanted any breakfast, I could barely see their faces as they are wrapped up so snuggly! I DO occasionally light a fire but only at the weekend if I am home all day and have finished my housework! Still hoping to hold out until November but with the school half term holiday coming round the week after next, I might need to light a fire every morning (anything to avoid switching the rads on!!).

Heating still off here.... DS is currently sat in his gloves and hat though! Not because its cold, but because he's obsessed with Night Garden at the minute and spotted them on the side this morning!
Had a look at the link about room temps...DS's bedroom and living room are 18, kitchen is 17 and our bedroom is 14! That's comfortable for us, as I like a cold bedroom and OH is like a radiator anyway! Still want to repeat - If you have very young, vulnerable(frail elderly/immobile/circulatory probs) or ill people in your home PLEASE make sure your homes are heated to recommended levels (21C Living Rooms/18C Bedrooms) with windows slightly open for air circulation.
Excellent post :T
We need to remember that although we are all trying to be MSE, sometimes needs must and this is one of them
I don't have proper heating in my place except for a gas fire in the lounge and a few plug-in heaters for when it gets really cold and haven't put any on yet. I did notice it a lot colder last night so put a jumper on (thinking maybe as there were lots of fireworks it was my brain being tricked thinking it was November :rotfl:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Still off today but there's such a chill in the air, I'm determined to last until November though and counting down the last 13 days :rotfl: there's no need for us to rush to put the heating on though, we're 25 with no children and no health problems so a bit of cold isn't going to do any harm...snuggling up under a fleecy blanket is very enjoyable anyway.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T
CC: £6412.95 (0% APR until Feb 2015 which I'm hoping is also my DFD!)
Currently awaiting the outcome of a PPI claim which may bring forward my DFD, fingers and toes crossed!0 -
Had mine on for half an hour first thing as it was distinctly nippy in here.
I've just spent ages emptying the pantry cupboard, decluttering it and putting it all back tidly. I am now so warm I may need to open a window!0
