Off.... and if it is anything like last year it won't go on until December again. We forked out for cavity wall insulation and full loft insulation (and laying out all old duvets on top of the insulation) as well as the usual thick curtains by front door/window, fleece blankets in the bedrooms and living rooms as recommended on this forum last year, and it does make a huge difference.

Ours will certainly go on before then (it isn't on yet). Sorry, but in Autumn and Winter it gets cold, that's why we heat our houses:confused:
No, ours will stay quite warm and we will wrap up. We have the benefit of next door putting on their heating already!

Ours is still off today but I'm not feeling well and am hankering to put it on. I wont though, I said we'd last until November (last winter bill was pretty bad as we'd moved into the house and whilst we got our details to them straight away they too 3 months to start taking our money meaning we were behind by the time it got to them re-calculating, fortunately we'd put money away ready for that happening) I want to stick to that if possible. I'm wearing my fleecy PJs, slipper boots and wrapped in thin fleece blanket with a laptop on my knee. Hubby hasn't complained at all and is wearing his work trousers and a thin work shirt and as long as he isn't whinging about the cold we wont be putting the heating on. I don't expect him to whinge though, he's would happily wear shorts in December!

This is interesting - I'd like to know more about it. I'm reluctant to start putting on the heating cos I find once I do, I start feeling the cold more and become very wussy!

I read it while googling about heating. Personally, I can see how it would benefit of the heating not having to heat cold bricks rather using the house like a massive storage heater. After a heating period the house slowly releasing the heat the bricks have absorbed back into the house. I maybe wrong.
  • Gave in here in Essex. Put it on at 9pm. The lounge was quite warm with the door shut, TV and lamps on but the rest of the house was cold to walk around in . I have thermostat radiators and have now put them all on 3.

Haven't felt the slightest need to put it on, still in short-sleeved shirts.

Thanks amtrakuk, I can see what you mean. I'm in two minds about the virtues of leaving it off now! I'll have to have a think about this. It was 14.5C when I came down this morning, chilly but ok once I was wrapped in a fleece. But with all the blinds open, the sun soon warmed the sitting room up to a balmy 19C. It's a bit cooler now but fine under the fleece.

ETA: Found this interesting article about central heating while googling.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!
