We have gas(Phoneix) in N/Ireland here, and my goodness the money we have had to spend recently although we are very careful indeed has been truly shocking. We have a meter in so pay for the gas up front and the electricity as well a meter too, and with all the hikes here four i believe, it has been terrible keeping up with it. I have held on to all the receipts as we have been buying it and as I say despite us being very careful it is a real concern. I recently bought flleecs and hot water bottles too, and we live in such a big house.(council) I love to turn it off at night and sit in my jammies and fleecy dressing gown and knit when my husband is in bed early(work) and my son is out with friends. Yes I like the snow too:)Do a little kindness every day.;)0

My heating's been on and off, we had a cold snap at the beginning of last week and it was a necessity. But this week it's not been too bad, so haven't had to have it on so often. Even been mild enough (and enough of a breeze!) to dry clothes outside yesterday!0

ours goes on when the sun goes round to the back of house(usually about 3pm) then off at 7.30pm0

Big change here too, managing on 3 hrs a day, sometimes less, half that of last winter.
Down to extra insulation, no doubt, and the house gets ventilated at mid-day. Also use the de-humidifier at the barest hint of damp inside, especially on wash day.
This thread and others similar have been a big inspiration.0 -
Had to put my heating on for about 3 hours today, to get the washing dry.
I did try to line dry most of the washing, but only the thin cottons just about dried.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -
enjoying the mild spell here too so no heating on here either, we've had it on for maybe an hour on the 1st but tbh the mildness has meant its not worth having on, washings not drying in this weather though!

We have had ours on but not much and not at all today or yesterday when I thought it was very mild. At most it's been on for an hour in the morning and an hour and a half-two hours in the evening. I am trying to avoid putting it on as much as possible though. Thank heavens for thermals!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

Well having two elderly parents and a huge detached house I have to have the heating on - and they have a wood burner in their lounge.
Its on for around 6 hours a day which is a third of last years. With careful sneaky settings the house isnt the hot house they would like but neither are they sitting freezing (dad is housebound so sits all day and needs the warmer rooms)
Its an hour in the mornings as they get up. then 45 mins mid norning, 45 mins at lunch, 45 mins mid afternoon then on at 5.30 for 2 hours and again at 9 for an hour.. This keeps the house reasonably warm, I may still need a fleece over my lap when sitting on pc but it means the bedrooms and bathrooms are ok for them to get undressed in. The wood burner gives them the extra heat they need for while they are just sat watching the tv. Still not cheap but this time last year the heating was on 8am till 11 - 11.30 pm0 -
Let's hope this milder weather lasts at least until the end of the month. We've decided that no heating is going on until 1st Dec at the earliest. There's only the two of us and OH is at work all day so we can cope in the evenings and at weekends for now.We have plenty throws ect to keep us warm and it's not like we have'nt had to do without heating before. There was years when we did'nt have central heating and we never thought twice about it.
We don't have any other form of heating but it's been fine.If we can last till 1st Dec,we'll have built up sufficient credit to not get into too much debt for the three winter months when it's usually(hopefully not this year)realy cold.0
