  • Thanks for the advice Suki1964. It's good to know that all might not be lost. You don't happen to have the technical name for the 'spinney thing' do you, so that I can research where to get one? many thanks.

A spinning cowl maybe? Like this http://www.rotorvent.co.uk/ ?
Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.
  • Thanks Mollymunchkin, it looks perfect. Will get OH to go and get one. Really appreciate it.x

If you live in a house with a staircase, the top of the banister is THE place for duvet covers, as all the warm air in the house floats upwards. This is the way we do ours, even when no heating is on. HTH

I know what you mean, but our staircase just has a wall on either side and goes straight up, with no big bannister.:(

    Have a nice holiday. :D

;) Felines are my favourite ;)
  • Still no heating on here I'm pleased to say. It's very mild weather though and although it's very dark and damp I can put up with that if it saves me money.I should imagine it won't be long before we need to put it on though as the weather's sure to turn soon enough.

Miss Empty Piggy - I had the same problem many years ago and I was told that my chimney was not tall enough! May have been a joke, but I got a really tall chimney pot with the vents in and it seemed to work. Maybe worth a try.
  • we also had to put a cowl on the chimney on the previous house. It helped a bit but the fire always smoked and remained inefficient

Very mild here today. Infact, it's been pleasant enough for seveal days now. After putting the heating on for an hour on the 1st, we had it on for another hour the following day, but nothing since then. It's hard to believe we're in November :D

Found a gas bill from March-May last year and we'd used over 2,000 kwh in just those 2 months:eek:. That won't happen again. I'm determined to keep costs down and only use it when it's really cold.
January seems to be the coldest month of all, so that's going to be a challenge. But at least if we can save costs on heating now, it'll all go to funding the times when it really is too cold to do without.

Here's hoping this mild weather lasts a bit longer for us all:j

As much as I'd like a mild winter to save on costs, the majority of me wants to see a cold and crisp winter, to kill off the germs and so I can see some snow. :o

It's been a very long time since I saw snow settle, properly. :(
Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.

Snow does look so pretty, but I'd rather be warm and I'm loving this rather mild if not rainy weather after being half frozen to death last week.
We've still managed no problem without any heating to date so I'm well pleased. At this rate I may just last till Dec.1st.
