Is your heating ON or OFF?

Well, my heating has gone on and it did go on some days in October. We have swapped around from having the clock set to come on mornings and evenings to setting the thermostat low and having it come on 'on demand'.
Changing the clock is a fiddle as our needs are different at varying times of day especially at the weekends.
The clock is now set to come on 'Once' i.e. all day and the (very OS)thermostat is set at 62deg - whatever that is in new money.
The heating has been on this morning, DH needs it as he is up at 5.30 and has Raynauds so it is not good for him to leave the house feeling cold, but it is not on now and won't be all day. I am relying on thick tights, a jumper and a hand knitted cardigan plus some good OS ironing and housework to keep me warm.
I will, however tweak the thermostat up to 64 for when DH comes home and the family come to visit. What a luxury they are, but they're worth it.:j (Had to put that bit in because DD lurks on this thread sometimes)

ours was on last night for about 4 hours . 1st time this autumn.
the heat has lingered for most of the night or else the outside temperature is warmer. It will be back on tonight probably. Its about 18degrees C now in my bedroom where the computer is so quite comfortable.0 -
We've just had to clean our Stanley as he was seriously caked in soot on the inside, which makes us wonder whether he's being economical or if we're wasting some oil. If it was just me at home I don't think I'd be that worried but I have an 18 month old so I worry she'll get cold, although saying that she's still in babygro and fleece sleepsuit at the moment.Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

I have had a good look at metcheck and it looks as though I will be keeping the heating off until monday next week at least. Realising that the ch is costing at least £2.50 a day has stopped me getting into a complacent frame of mind.
Adaptation is one of the states that signifies a healthy human being, ie the ability to adapt, so in reality our bodies can cope if all systems are functioning correctly and if we can retain the warmth that our bodies generate, helped by hot meals and drinks. This does not apply to tiny babes, the unwell and older elderly0 -
Kittie I know exactly what you mean about vertical graph - I did the same today and it makes for some scary viewing!
On the other hand, holding out until nearly the end of Oct for me meant that I have accumulated a fair amount of credit and can relax a little and enjoy some heat at last (in moderation of course)!
I know that from Weds, when I go away for a few days to Italy, the mice will dance (because the cat - me - is away) so the rest of the family will have long hot baths and the house will be like a furnace!
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Put it on yesterday afternoon finally. Set it at 17C and it warmed the house through just nicely. I'm just in the living room at the mo so just have the fire on. Will see how we go this evening.Love and compassion to all x0

Oh well, sitting here with two clothes dryers of wet linen etc. Hung it out all afternoon in the slight breeze and it is still damp, damp, damp.
It is across from the gas central heating grid thingamie where the hot air comes out, so hopefully that will take the edge off the washing before it switches off on the timer at 9.30pm.
I am NOT using the tumble drier.
I hate this damp.Felines are my favourite

I'm the same as you parsonswife8. I got some birthday money from my sister and bought 2 clothes airers, so that I only use the tumble dryer when I really need to.0

My train of thought is if you are paying to put the heating on then USE that heat to dry clothes. I have radiator airers over the the rads in the bathrooms to dry the smalls and I have clothes airers in the hall and bedrooms and I often put towels and sheets over the rads at bedtimes to put the last residual heat to use
Tumble drier is in the garage - next stop freecycle0 -

The problem is we have a kingsize bed, so the duvet cover and sheet are quite big.
I think we have managed to get the edge off now, so hopefully, a tiny bit of sun tomorrow?
