@Teapartymum, sometimes adding a jumper isn’t enough. I had to get undressed again in the chilly bedroom, and layer up properly with a vest, long sleeved T-shirt, a thin wool jumper, and a warm hoodie, the thin layers keep the body warmth in without getting too bulky. I add gilet and hat, and a have several wool rugs, if I am sitting still. Warm joggers and thick socks were sufficient, with sheepskin slippers, but I have some thermal leggings. In cold weather I wear a scarf, fingerless gloves, and thick socks like leggings, over my joggers to stop warmth escaping at the extremities, and I tuck a hot water bottle under my jumper. I bought a down filled jacket in the sales. I feel the cold somewhat.
I make lots of soup with vegetables and pulses, there is always some in the fridge. A mug of hot, thick soup soon warms you.
Our childhood home was very cold on winter mornings, condensation frozen inside the windows, and we would put our clothes into the bed to warm them before getting dressed.5 -
I'm very conscious it's only October so a long way to go....try to layer gradually so I've got somewhere to go in December January and February5

Wombled some wood from a local forest whilst out with a friend today. Going by the weight of the bag we filled, I probably have around £4/£5 of seasoned wood that will give me some free heat.
Much needed as my central heating isn't working and needs a power flush which I cannot afford until Feb/March.
Free wood is a delight!Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

I haven't used my central heating for at least two years. Last winter I used the gas fire in my sitting room for a few months and possibly an electric fan heater a couple of days.
So far this autumn/winter I've not put on any heating but have sat with a hot water bottle a few evenings. The WHO recommended temperature of 20 deg C (for the old, the young, and the ill) seems rather high to me and I think it better to put another layer of clothing on rather than use the heating.9
