It is 19c in the living room this evening. I expect the raging wood fire I had last night along with some soup making this evening has kept it warm!Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

This week’s project is tacking a strip of leftover carpet above the integral garage door to stop draughts.Really hoping that will make a difference as our bedroom is right above that garage and the draughts are fierce in winter. Also added some homemade insulation in the garage ceiling (old clothes, blankets dust cloths). Hoping for a big difference this winter, although have reclassified some old bobble hats as bed hats to prevent cold painful ears like I had last year!Lancashire

@Fruball - wash the heated throw now, whilst the weather is fine and dry! The temperature is said to be taking significant a turn in the last week of October.

This is just what I asked on the winter thread. You just use your normal hats for bed in winter? I have a couple already but I thought they would fall off in the night. I do move from one side to the other a lot at night, though.SuzeQStan said:Hoping for a big difference this winter, although have reclassified some old bobble hats as bed hats to prevent cold painful ears like I had last year!5 -
I just saw your message on the other thread @Wednesday2000 😂
it took a bit of time to find a suitable bed hat for me as I don’t like anything too tight on my head but at the same time I didn’t want it to fall off like you say. (My OH says I chase rabbits through the fields in my dreams at nite 😳🙄🤣)Had a couple old bobble hats which seem to fit the bill but time will tell. Let me know if you find something that works for you pls 😊👍🏻Lancashire

^ I looked through my gloves, scarves and hats box and I did find a hat that I think would work. It is a soft black beanie style but not at all tight. I am going to put it in the wash tonight and have it ready for when it gets colder.

Oh wow, I have really felt the cold today. Was 14 degrees in the bedroom, switched the dehumidifier on to get it up to 16 and switched the electric blanket on too. Need a hot bath before bed. Still not turned the heating on.Current debt approximately 5000

I always have a hot bath early evening really helps6 -
I'm currently flicking between two extremes at the moment.
Heating's not been on at my house yet, currently the temperature in my bedroom is 16C, which feels quite comfortable to be honest, just sat in shorts and t-shirt with a blanket on, it was 14C first thing this morning though.
I got to the office this morning and all but one of the radiators are on full blast, none of the windows open, it's like getting hit by a wall of heat, I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the mid-high 20s in there today. Trouble is I've a colleague who feels the cold.
I was glad to cool off when I left work to be honest.4 -
My plan is to do that tomorrow morning before work! And that door curtain. Honestly, I forget so much stuff! I have a list in the Preparing for Winter thread which I should print and stick on the fridge!Rosa_Damascena said:@Fruball - wash the heated throw now, whilst the weather is fine and dry!
