It was quite nice and sunny here yesterday, but the days before were quite chilly. I rearranged my living room so the sofa is further away from the draught from the door. I bought a dog shaped draught excluder to fill the gap in the door to the kitchen as well. I also bought some new dark green heavy curtains so the room looks more in keeping to the new season that is coming. :) I switched some pics around so the house looks less summery. I am determined to adapt to winter this year, instead of dreading it!

Its 16 degrees in my living room and I would like to put the heating on but its too expensive. Electric wall heaters gobble up electricity like no ones business. So I'm going to carry on doing odd jobs around the place and have an occasional hot drink, more to warm my hands more than anything.

  • I was cold indoors yesterday but decided against turning the heating on. Today the front room has heated naturally with the sun and now sits at 20.7C - long may it continue!

Its been lovely here over the weekend and is set to stay that way into the start of next month! Although noticeably cooler in the mornings - bizarrely Alexa communicated a fog warning this morning. Its just right for me and I feel very content  :)

.Im moving house next weekend (bit sooner than I expected) so I will have to so the new place compares to this one. Im moving from a 2 bed house to a 2 bed ground floor flat but the square footage is the same so I hope it wont be much more expensive. Rent is the same but council tax is higher even though Im moving from a house with a garage in council tax band C to a flat in council tax B but im moving to a different area, Its been empty a couple of months so  I may need to have the heating on more than normal to get it warmed up.so hope the weather doesn't get too chilly too soon, I haven't had to have the heating on much here apart from testing the heating last week so lets hope its the same at the new place.

My central heating is off as it is not working.  Only the bathroom radiator is heating up, unfortunately.  I've bled rads etc and changed the pump but I think it needs a power flush... ££££££s  :'(  No funds for that until March work bonus.  Very flipping helpful!

No funds to fix right now but have plug in oil filled radiators and thought I had switched one of those on tonight... I felt warmish so I assumed it was working.  Turned out I had not switched it on at the plug so it was all psychosomatic   :D  TBF it is 20.5c in here so I am not complaining!

I do have an open fire but that is so expensive unless I can source free wood.  Ideas welcome in that department, thank you!

Try the free sites for wood - trash nothing, gumtree (freebies), Olio, FB marketplace and groups that offer free/cheap wood. You can also place free ads saying that you are after free firewood and are willing to collect.

Although a lot of times the wood you get this way requires seasoning.  But we have seen seasoned wood offered frequently on these sites as long as you are willing to do a bit of processing yourself - splitting into more manageable pieces etc.

If you live near an industrial estate, companies that process waste wood off cuts will often allow people to collect their waste wood for free.

I have got my cotton winter vests out, T-shirts would do. Something to keep the warmth in, under a top and a jumper. Next it will be the thermal layers.

My neighbour was saying that we should get a boiler check each year. I said the man who fitted our radiator checked it this year, but I might do what she said next year. She is going to get her radiator done by the same man, hopefully, as we said it made our bathroom much warmer when we tested it out.

It was extremely windy last night, but quite mild (and almost humid :o) at the same time. We have had the heating on sporadically, but not for any length of time yet.
