Its been sunny so beautifully warm in the kitchen, even though its been chilly again outside. For productivity's sake, I remain under my electric blanket.

We've had a lovely sunny week but suddenly its very cold. I'd packed away my electric blankets but they are coming back out now!

Ok so I know its only July but before long the BER months will be upon us and whilst I was looking through the threads for a winter prepping post this was the first one I came across.

Im just wondering how everyone is getting on with the fluctuations in weather.
South Wales today is sitting at a comfortable 18 degrees (feels like 21 apparently) but will be getting some rain in the forecast about mid week.
I have friends who have already put there heating on and Ill be honest I havent even tested mine this year yet.

Just wondered how the rest of us are doing?

It doesn't feel like July to me because of the heatwaves we have had. It feels like Autumn should be coming soon. We did switch to a new cheaper energy provider a few weeks ago. We are getting a new radiator fitted next month too and the plumber said it should throw off much more heat than our old one.

I haven’t had the heating on for ages, but I was thinking it’s about time to book the boiler service. It’s getting very elderly so each winter I worry it could finally keel over. Engineers have already said getting parts would be a problem. So then I need to think about boiler versus heat pump in terms of replacement. I’ve heard some heat pumps can also provide cool air on summer which might be good but not done any research yet. Anyone able to share some experience on this?

It has felt a little autumnal today but I think that is just because of the heatwaves we have had over the last couple of months. I have put a jumper on indoors today which seems crazy seeing as my lounge is 24 degrees - however that feels positively chilly after it was 32 in here just a couple of weeks ago 😂

Ah no doubt we will be having letters through from the council soon saying they need to ome out and do a boiler service. We have already had some chaps out to look at the roofing in our property but they said it was all fine.

Im nervous this year for my MIL, it will be her first full winter by herself and I worry she will get cold especially since she has now lost her winter fuel payment. Luckily we are close to her so I can check in on her regularly but her conservatory gets so cold in the winter. I might try and convince her to put a door curtain up over the connecting door.

Thats the bit that confuses me. My DD15 and DH told me the other day they felt cold and I said it was in the 20s still but it must be because of the heatwave but I can see me having to dig out blankets for the sofas before long.

A door curtain makes a massive difference! My cats love the conservatory, so the door to it is always open - having thick curtains up at least keeps the living room tolerable for humans.

I actually have two sets of curtains up on the same pole - one thick pair in a colour that's not to my taste, hidden behind a thinner pair that's more my style. Both charity shop bargains at £10 a pop.
