I bled my radiators and tested my heating today to make sure it’s all working properly before the weather gets really chilly.
We tested ours a couple weeks back but haven’t had it on since.  As far as the gas boiler is concerned we won’t be using it for any heating (other than DHW) till mid October earliest.  However there have been a couple chilly evenings where we put the multi burner on and it was really cosy and nice.

Mortgage freedom January 2024 - paid off 7 years early by making overpayments where we could.

  • Weather still forecast sunny and quite mild here, south-south Wales for at least the next two weeks.
We still have the 4.0 tog duvet on the bed but with a throw at the bottom just in case.
The wood burner is laid ready to go, and a log delivery stacked away. It’s difficult holding out as it’s so cosy when lit.🔥
The ASHP has also been serviced but not planning on using anything until the end of October, but if it suddenly gets colder it will go on. I’ve been trying to build up a little cushion over the summer with 🐙 before the winter.

Heating's not on but the electric blanket and wool duvet definitely are!!  Snuggly!!
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

The timer is turning mine on for an hour in the morning and another hour in the early evening - just one radiator in the living room and one in the bathroom with the thermostat set at 18 deg.  Anything below that is far too cold for little old me!  I do have a good credit balance though so won't be frightened of turning on more radiators when needed.

I'm still using a quilted bedspread - duvet reserved for now - but have changed over to flannelette sheets.  In the evenings I wear thermolactyl slipper boots and use a sofa throw.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.
  • I’ve noticed the change in the temperature recently but I’ve managed not putting the heating on yet, just waiting to see what October brings as I think it was October last year the heating came on.

The kitchen is definitely chiller first thing in the mornings and so far I am making do with a 2-layered solution (a warm scarf and blanket) across my knees when I am working. As a child I always used to wonder why older people did that, but now I know!!

^ I do that too with a scarf (or a cardigan with a warm collar) and a blanket on my knees. It feels warmer today, however.

It turned out lovely and sunny this afternoon, 17°C on the Essex riviera.

I’ve got new curtains to put over the patio doors for the first time in 6 years! I’m really looking forward to having a warmer living room. Fromdifferent things people have posted on here the curtains will still make a difference even though it’s double glazed. Yes I am behind the times lol
