Outdoor temperature yes, but not indoor? What is your thermostat set to during the night?Rosa_Damascena said:
I really need to get my head round how the system operates - should be straightforward and the instructions are, but they are also lacking in detail. Some mornings the smart meter reads £1.20 at 8am (acceptable given the standing charge is around 44p x2), others its £4.30 and the floor is warm.Spies said:Your frost prevention program really shouldnt be kicking in, it should only run if the internal temperatures below 5c
The temperature has dropped to zero for several evenings over the past few days.
I checked the smart meter again at 6pm - had only just crossed the £2 threshold. That's with me using my Echo dot all night, and working with multiple devices all day under a heated blanket and 3 parsimonious boils of the kettle. Something is burning money overnight but I can see that coming to an end as the days get warmer. The sun was streaming into my kitchen earlier and it was bliss! No man is worth crawling on this earth.

That is so true! Take a look at this, tips 1 and 4 are especially relevant. Buy the best you can and enjoy it!Primrose said:I,m 84, severely disabled (can,t walk ad have no balance due to a degenerating neurone foneeiin) so exercising to keep arm is hard. Our 50 y.o. We wear lots of layered clothing and as a shroud has no pockets have decided we won,t economise on heating bills.

It was lovely weather today! Very mild and Springlike. I did feel chilly again after the sun went down so had it on for about 3 hours.3

Just looked at my smart meter again - spend so far this year is £157, which is less than I thought it might be in January! No man is worth crawling on this earth.

It may sound a bit daft to some, but when asking “is your heating on or off?” is the general question about central heating? ( as I see it). Our cottage is made up of small ( doored) rooms, each of which is heated as needed.3

I'm feeling okay during the day, but I need the heating switched on after the sun goes down most evenings.2025 GOALS

I only have central heating I don't have a fire or a wood burner, but to me it should include any sort of heating. I only have the radiators on downstairs the ones upstairs are set at no1.mumf said:It may sound a bit daft to some, but when asking “is your heating on or off?” is the general question about central heating? I have 3 night storage heaters which were partially in use for 2 days last winter and so far not at all this winter - I use a fan heater for warming me and not a room that is nearly always used on its 1KW setting and I limit that to a maximum 10 mins at a timemumf said:It may sound a bit daft to some, but when asking “is your heating on or off?” is the general question about central heating? Just a word of warning if you do choose to use them again - when they are first switched on, take extra care as they may have deteriorated. Ours were off over summer and when switched on, shorted the electricity. I only found out because the nightlight went out so I woke in darkness and thought the children might be scared, so I flipped the fuse back on and turned the storage heater off, just in case it was the cause of the outage.mjm3346 said:I have 3 night storage heaters which were partially in use for 2 days last winter and so far not at all this winter - I use a fan heater for warming me and not a room that is nearly always used on its 1KW setting and I limit that to a maximum 10 mins at a time
I didn't know for sure it was at fault but it was the likely culprit despite having been fine when last used, so I avoided turning it on again. Later an electrician told us it had not only caused the power cut, but had been installed wrongly and had begun to smoulder when the power went out. The marks were there on the wooden skirting board behind the socket at the foot of the stairs. If I hadn't turned it off, the stairs would have been next to go.
So a heater that's been off is always suspect to me, things can change even when we don't use them. Of course it may never happen to anyone here, but be careful.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)
