After a beautiful mild day, tonight is clear-skied and bitter. I'm sure the heating will be on tomorrow.

Aldi has heated blankets in the middle aisle atm.
    In the Chalkwell branch?

I lay on one of the Aldi heated blankets earlier (well, yesterday now) and they are great. I might take a trip to Aldi!
Priory Park branch but am pretty sure by the quantity available that they would have been a Thursday specialbuy so no reason they wouldn't be on London Rd.

    Singles were £19.99, doubles £24.99.

Seems like my house is crap at retaining heat. I have an electric heater on for a couple of hours a day in my main room and it barely changes the temperature and then it goes right back down straight after! Its currently 14.5C in my sitting room which does feel chilly.

This article has some ideas about why houses get cold: windows are one of the reasons. Solutions range from large scale and costly (new windows) to smaller scale and instant: block any draughts, hang thicker curtains, shut curtains at night, put clingfilm over the panes with an air gap between film and glass.

I know my windows are a major problem....very old and the wind will come right through the gaps. Luckily I have enough saved for new windows and have a quote, just have to chase the guy up on Monday to see about getting them fitted.
Its 12C in here this morning...generally not a problem if I wrap up well. My only gripe is cold hands....you really cant wear gloves indoors and get stuff done, it isnt practical!!LOL :D

Oh that sounds a bit cold, @catz4m8z! Mind you I would hibernate if I could, cold slows me right down. I'm glad you're getting new windows. Meanwhile keeping busy is a good way to warm up :)

It was 16C when I came downstairs at 6am this morning. Heating went on straight away at 18.
    Very cold day here.

  • I'm a bit surprised thar I feel ok at 16degC - which is what I have set the thermostat at.

  • Heating is on low in the mornings and evenings, and I feel better for it. I may feel differently when I receive my energy bill.

I used the electric blanket in bed for an hour (under lots of duvets) last night and it was blimmin' lovely. I didn't want to budge!

My heating is on at 19 now - I could not cope with 16C.
