I tried mine yesterday evening to make sure it was working ok. I don't want to wait until its freezing and then find out it doesn't work.

I am extremely careful with my electric only heating. Last winter I avoided turning the heaters on unless the weather was in the low degress, down to 6 or 7 degrees only. That said, i will be in work a lot more this winter meaning i wont be paying for any heating for 3 long days and i will be able to afford to have the heating on more when im at home. I think I read on here last winter some people were leaving the heating off in minus degree cold weather. I certainly could not do that! I use an electric blanket on the bed, use an invaluable electric throw on the couch and a hot water bottle when needed :-)Current debt approximately 5000
Goal- Zero debt by mid 2025
Savings in 2026- an emergency fund of 50008 -
After 7 years of having my current boiler I discovered I can turn down the pump speed to low, this means return temp is lower so hopefully this results in slightly less gas usage this year.4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.8

My gas usage has been incredibly low this summer. Next week is going to be another warm one - today was incredible for October! - and this thread has reminded me to have the boiler serviced. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.4 -
The manual for the boiler suggests running the pump on as low speed as possible for maximum efficiency so not sure what you mean by that comment.
The hot water and CH temperatures are completely seperate and not influenced by pump speed at all.4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.5 -

We've had to have ours on for an hour here and there just to take the chill off.5

I Am On the Essex coast. Until last week I was still using the 4.5 tog duvet and sleeping with the window open.I have now got the 9 tog duvet, the flannelette sheet and duvet cover and the electric blanket on the bed.The heating has been on once so far, mainly to test it. Still 17° in here today at 11pm, acc to the thermostat.5

Been putting it on manually most mornings recently. Considering whether I want to set up the auto timer for every morning.
Evenings I'm fine under a light blanket.4 -
So far Ive just had to put my storage heater on in the bathroom (otherwise the towels dont dry anymore!).
No central heating anywhere else but TBH its not that cold yet. Im still just layering up with cardies. When it gets colder I'll chuck fleece PJs over my clothes and an Oodie, colder still and I'll get out the heated blanket, sheet and dog bed.....if all that fails it will be time to turn the electric heater on!
Honestly Ive got a decent amount of credit built up with my energy company but Id rather save that for if the weather gets really bad (also Ive always been stingy with heating!LOL).6
