Cherryfudge said:The ice bottle idea is such a good one for hot weather - presumably also suitable for cooling overheated pets?
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy5 -
Looking at all the models available on line most of them now seem to have fancy furry covers which look difficult to remove but are missing the one importent safety feature, in my view, ie a decent handle so that you can hold the bottle steady and upright while filling it, so you don,t risk scalding yourself.6

All the data shows that we UK (and Ireland) live in a mild maritime climate. Nowhere is far from the sea, and the islands are warmed by the Gulf stream and prevailing westerlies. In Winter for example London averages 6C warmer than Berlin - although both are at similar latitudes.

It has been a very cold night across the UK. The temperature in Braemar, Aberdeenshire fell to –23.0C at 08:13 on Thursday morning, 11th February 2021. It hasn’t been this cold in the UK since 1995. For a February night, since 1955.
Edinburgh -13C, Aberdeen down to -15C and several Scottish sites had their coldest February night on record. Glasgow airport dropped to -11C. In England and Wales, many places were several degrees below zero.

Freezing now and due to get a bit colder tonight before reaching 9 during the day and 8 at night tomorrow which is a bit colder than they were forecasting a few days ago, Monday is now expected to be 13 and 9. In anticipation of the warmer weather the storage heaters are back off again and hopefully can stay that way for a while.

It's -4 outside here, but we have an amber weather warning for tomorrow caused by freezing rain and snow falling on frozen surfaces. Take care anyone who has to drive, the roads can be treacherous when it starts to thaw.4

It was wet, windy and chilly when I went out earlier. I spotted a couple of tents with lights pitched up on the beach at around 4.30pm, they looked to be in good condition so I cannot believe they belong to the homeless. 10k steps later I am so grateful to have a warm comfortable home to come back to!The temperature is set to rise overnight to a balmy but wet 14°C tomorrow. I long for warm sunny days, bring on the solstice...No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.3 -
At 7.30 this morning, the temperature outside was the same as my bedroom temperature, had been at 7.30 am on Friday and Saturday mornings. 10.5 degrees.I'm also looking forward to warmer, longer days.4

Amazing to wake up this morning and find a week of snow completely gone, washed away by heavy rain yesterday afternoon and evening. And temperatures starting to rise. The National Grid must be heaving a sigh of relief that widespread power cuts were not necessary. I think everybody making heating economies of some kind, despite the low temperatures, probably saved the day, although I guess we all hold our breath now to see what January and February will bring. They can be equally cruel months, the only blessing being that least the daylight time will start to slowly increase.8
