I've not read the energy board part of the forum for a while tbh, but iirc the SC was upped so that everyone equally paid for bailing out the failed companies. Which do I understand the logic behind."One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate change policy is environmental policy. Instead, climate change policy is about how we redistribute de facto the world's wealth." - Ottmar Edenhofer, IPCC economist, interviewed at COP163

The Sc covers the cost of infrastructure and maintenance of. It also goes towards schemes for vulnerable users and projects taking us towards net zero.
Companies don't have to apply a Sc, if they prefer to add these charges to each unit cost.2 -
The SC is a fairly small part of the bill, mine in Ludlow are 27p gas and 47p Electric so £8.50 and £14.50 a month. I can cope with that.
I do turn lights off when I leave the room, even low wattage ones, 0w is better than 5w wasted, but I do appreciate the saving is minimal. We even turn the coffee maker (the one with glass jug and the heater plate) off at the wall as soon as we've finished because it has a digital clock .... now THAT's tight!
Once you've restricted your usage to the minimum, I think we have to accept the bills will be more than they used to be and the house colder.DEBT FREE - Feb '21& Mortgage Free Nov '24
Now, let's look at FIRE4 -
My microwave has a digital timer thing but not a clock (or if it is I’ve never realised it is 🤔) It goes on at the wall when I’m using it then off at the wall again. Tight !!!!!! unite!"One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate change policy is environmental policy. And who's fault was it that companies failed? It was the lack of due diligence by those that stoked the free market. The Tories have not accepted their share of the blame here.YoungBlueEyes said:I've not read the energy board part of the forum for a while tbh, but iirc the SC was upped so that everyone equally paid for bailing out the failed companies. It wouldn't occur to me to do this but nor do I think it's stingy, it sound like habit to me. Stinge / meanness applies at the expense of others somehow, this affects no one.RobM99 said:

Yes, I remember DM wrapping HWBs in a towel so we didn't burn our feet - mind you, they were the old fashioned stone pigs! Also the loud "clunk" when they fell out of the bed.RobM99 said:Good point re: hot bottles, although anything involving lots of heat has its own hazards. Maybe a thick cover would help as it then insulates and stays warmer for longer too.Be kind to others and to yourself too.5 -
I think this might be a misunderstanding of what has happened. The SC can be used to cover the admin costs of moving the customers across to a new supplier. This is not the same thing as bailing out a failed company. The process is managed by Ofgem.Rosa_Damascena said:
