If you have central heating, does it tell you what the temperature is in each room, or do people here have thermometers dotted about the house? I don't have it, in case that wasn't obvious...

We just have a thermostat in the hall for reasons I forget. The heating installers did explain...I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Why put it in an unheated room? it'll practically NEVER do its job of regulating the temperature in the heated rooms. Set it to 21C in the hall that's 12C..and remains at 12C irrespective of the temperature of the heated rooms.
Makes no sense.
I want it to turn the heating of when the heated rooms reach the desired temperature.
We've moved ours to the heated room where it now does it's job.

Now, let's look at FIRE3 -
I had a quick read-up to answer my own question and apparently airflow comes into it, so does centrality. Our hall is to one side of the house so that bit probably doesn't apply. Air flow certainly does.
Our hall is heated and it's the hall radiator that provides heat right up to the top of the stairs and the landing, so I'm guessing that having the thermostat there helps the core temperature of the house (and also makes the heating kick in if I have the outside door open for more than a brief while).I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. My thermostat is mobile and can be moved into different rooms, I usually keep it in the living room as that’s where I spend most time. I don’t want the bedrooms hot. If I’m in the kitchen cooking I’m not there for long, and if the oven is on it’s warming the room.I have clicked it on 17 for half an hour or so the last couple of early evenings and it’s not been bad to sit in there the rest of the night if I keep doors closed and wrap up under the throw.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6

Stove lit when needed so far. WFH so I can't sit down being cold. New oodie thing working well though! Oil heater in bedroom timed to come on in the morning, on the cheap rate. 12 deg too cold really. Storage heaters still off :-)5
