  • If you have central heating, does it tell you what the temperature is in each room, or do people here have thermometers dotted about the house? I don't have it, in case that wasn't obvious...

The coldest spot in the house?

After running the hearing for 2 days I am satisfied it is working so have switched it off now (turned the thermostat down to 14°C).

I'm surprised, the house seems to be warm this morning! Its gone from a damp 1930s property to a fully insulated one and now retains heat very well.

I've never understood this. Our Thermostat was in an unheated entrance hall where the nearest radiator is 2 rooms away. We don't have radiators in a number of rooms including the kitchen, our bedroom, the hall, or landing or the middle (of three) living rooms though this has the log burner.

Why put it in an unheated room? it'll practically NEVER do its job of regulating the temperature in the heated rooms. Set it to 21C in the hall that's 12C..and remains at 12C irrespective of the temperature of the heated rooms.

    Makes no sense.
I want it to turn the heating of when the heated rooms reach the desired temperature.

We've moved ours to the heated room where it now does it's job.

I had a quick read-up to answer my own question and apparently airflow comes into it, so does centrality. Our hall is to one side of the house so that bit probably doesn't apply. Air flow certainly does.

Our hall is heated and it's the hall radiator that provides heat right up to the top of the stairs and the landing, so I'm guessing that having the thermostat there helps the core temperature of the house (and also makes the heating kick in if I have the outside door open for more than a brief while).
