Heating has crept on here when we need it. Dry and sunny ut cold today so first load will be on line outside shortly followed by a second. Will dry as much as possible and finish off with a quick blast in tumble drier. It's my compromise as fed up with washing all over the house.

Yes, once the seals start leaking between the two glass panes, air and moisture gets in and yiu get condensation that doesn,t easily clear.  It might be possible just to have the seals replaced but you,d be lucky to find a window specialist to do this work. They,d rather replace the whole window.
  • We've capitulated ! 2 nights ago we put the heating on for 2 hours.
We've shut off all but 3 rads, 2 in the lounge and one in the bathroom.
We did a timed hour of heating and used 0.34 cubic metres of gas ..

To convert metric gas meter readings to kWh:

    • Take a meter reading.
    • Subtract the new meter reading from the previous reading to work out the volume of gas used. -   (0.34)
    • Multiply by the volume correction factor (1.02264). -  (0.3476)
    • Multiply by calorific value (40.0).  - (13.9079)
    • Divide by kWh conversion factor (3.6). - (3.8633)
Therefore I used 3.86 kWh in the timed hour ... Bulbs tariff has snuck up to 10.3341p per kWh
So it cost 39.92p for an hour's restricted heating.

We've also moved the thermostat into the lounge with the 2x rads rather than in an unheated hall.

It's still MUCH cheaper to sit under an electric blanket.
We've 2. One rated at 80W the other at 120W
the 80W one could be on for 12.5 hours to use 1000W or 33p
I usually drop it down to setting 2 or 3 so I guess 40W? so I can run it all day ( I don't ) for the same 33p.

  • Finally on here near Ystradgynlais. Last two days we have put it on. My son is on his second round of antibiotics for tonsillitis that hasn't shifted. I've been ill and the baby has too. I want to be comfortable and the thermostat has reached 14 so I've put it on and set it to 17.
  • Mine has turned on automatically the last two mornings when temp dropped below 16. Aside from that we're adding layers still
