Sorry I should have checked before I spoke, I’m not even sure I remembered it right. But I think the SC covers infrastructure etc, the raise in it was for costs associated with the failed companies so customers wouldn’t be without. Let’s put it like that.I’m not sure there are any companies that don’t do SC are there…?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4

For the past week, we have had the biomass heating on for 2 hours in the morning and since having triple glazing installed this year we are finding that amount ok for now. Tonight we'll light the log burner in the living room and if needed use a warm throw each.

Haven't turned the heating on yet. The flat isn't hooked up to gas so all the heating's electric and the weather's still mild enough that it's not worth switching it on at these prices. Sticking to putting an extra jumper on and making up a hot water bottle for now!

Two nights of enough frost for car windows to need scraping in the mornings and the day in-between them was foggy almost all day long. This morning is slightly misty, completely overcast and the next 10 days do not look good for any sun. The hot water bottle helped and early to bed last night with a fan heater on in the bedroom for a few mins to take the chill off meant this morning was still 10.5 in the bedroom compared to the kitchen/lounge at 9.6. Not putting the heaters on has quickly become more difficult than it was3

Finally gave in today and lit the gas boiler. Checked and lubricated the TRVs. Top tip:- when switching the system off for the summer, open all the TRVs fully. The little valve pins can be lubricated before pushing down to test.
Downstairs temperature up to 12 now so feeling more comfortable. Bathroom on a full flow radiator so warm towels at last.3 -
Hardly dare to comment!!
Ours has been on a few weeks at 21 degrees and 24 seven.
It’s a three story house with underfloor heating and the top floor is never switched on.
We were told that the most economical way to use it to have it set for 24 seven and it’s not working out to be very expensive.
Smart meter is showing an average of less than £4 a day.4 -
I think crunch time for many is going to come in December. Many people have managed to compromise up to now but with temperatures dropping across the board this going to be more difficult and many people are going to be well wrapped up in sweaters and coats and indoors. At least useful if un welcome visitors arrive - "Oh sorry I can',t invite you in. As you can see, I,m about to go out!!"8

I've gone from a mid terrace house to a flat (block of 4) and it's been a surprise just how much I've needed the heating on here. The main rooms are quite big with bay windows, I've also got a terrible draft from bedroom windows so that's currently excessively cold and difficult to heat. Reported a week ago but no appointment made yet with subcontractors.
I saw an improvement in heating after a gas leak was fixed, here is hoping if the windows can be sorted I'll see another bump up in efficiency!3
