Unfortunately Mrs Indout has a blood condition which is regulated but causes a very low pulse (40 or below) so is always cold. last night we had central heating on, her still wrapped in a fleece and me in at-shirt.
we also have bad problems with damp so need to keep it reasonable despite running 2 dehumidifiers constantlyTotally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy6 -
I adjusted the timer this weekend for slightly longer bursts of heat since it's been foggy and chilly since Saturday and today it's chucking it down with no sun predicted for a few days. Our living room where we spend most of our time is west facing so precious little sun during the winter months - by the time it gets round it's dark and the curtains are closed. I've also had to turn on the radiator in the north facing spare bedroom after finding signs of mould.
Today's job is to clean that off and dig out the dehumidifier. It's a fine balance between keeping costs down and having a "healthy" home.

Hi YorksLass we are in Bradford so suffering the same weather, none stop thick fog all weekend and not chucking it down. We run two dehumidifiers 24 hours a day and were surprised how little they cost to run (less than 1p / hour for both according to our new smart meter readout)
We are in a bungalow so damp from below and at the edges of ceiling where the roof meets are bad areas but the dehumidifiers work wonders.

Hello Indout96 - I'm intrigued by your dehumidifiers being so cheap to run - what type do you have? Mine ran for 7 hours on our off-peak rate the other night and used in the region of 1.25kWh total - so a cost to us of around 18p, obviously substantially more than yours!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I have finally given in. Heating on and radiators bled. Most radiators will soon turn off as TRVs set to frost setting so only come on at start up. I just have the radiator on in one room.I don't have an overall thermostat, only a timer to control on and off times so I have to guess when I will be coming home or wait for it to warm up once home. My heated throw is a god send to snuggle under waiting for the room to get warm.5

Biomass heating on here on the lowest setting for a couple of hours in the morning, only when needed. Get hot water too when it is running and also get to make some porridge on the stove on those days. Brings the house up to around 18c where we prefer it all winter and it stays pretty much that temperature for most of the day until the temperature drops in the evening. Then if needed we light the log burning stove in the living room to bring the temperature back up again.
It's been mild here in Hertfordshire for November.

We were worried about running them full time but it puts our normal (background) usage up from around 10p / hour to 11p (for both) This is on a brand new smart meter so I am assuming it is correct.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy4 -
Hi Indout96 - Still raining here and have had the lights on most of the day - now I know how pit ponies must have felt!
I've no idea how much my dehumidifier costs to run so I'll need to educate myself about that. It's currently on the landing doing its stuff - if today's weather doesn't improve, I'm expecting to have to empty it soon.

500ml of water per day is tiny as dehumidifiers go, which is probably why it is costing so little. That is less than one pint of water. A person mooching about will produce more than that each day before considering, cooking, washing, laundry etc.5

We have finally dropped to single figures with a wind change as well so a shock to the system
Heating kicked in around 4pm and will stay on till 9, plus the 30 mins in the morningsMum is sitting all day, I cant let it drop too far below 20. Shes warm enough with the sun on the room but of course that starts going around 3pm up here5
