Turned out sunny after lunch following a couple of cloudy and wet days and it helped move temp above 13.2 and it's 14.4 now and may rise another 0.5 since I am indoors and going to cook for 20 mins or so - raking leaves up earlier and (admittedly wearing a jacket on top of a t-shirt) it felt really warm.

Friday night a proper frost, coldest yet indoors Saturday morning down to 11.1, out in the garden most of the day and with a bit of sun the temperature had risen to 14.4 by the evening. Not so cold last night, stayed above 12 indoors and despite a cloudy and wet start to the day some later sun has again got it over 14 - definitely jumper weather now and considering a hot water bottle to take away the cold sheet shock

It officially went on, on Monday 14th.  Up until this point, I had been using the open fire to warm the house, but I now feel I need to help with warming the structure to avoid damage, not just myself.  So, on in the mornings and the evenings for short periods, boosting the open fire.  Hopefully, the LPG will last until March if I continue in this vein.  By then, I might actually receive this mystical £200 the government keep promising.

Now in regular use on the timer for three periods a day - early morning for when we get up, a top up mid-day and then early evenings.

I sent in monthly meter readings this morning - gas units more this month than last, thanks to the heating, but about the same as this time last year; electricity units the same as last month and a bit more than this time last year.  I'm putting that down to having to have the lights on more during the day, using the oven slightly more and using the dehumidifier in the spare bedroom to eliminate the mould that I noticed.  That's gone now bit I'll leave the dehumidifier in there "just in case" it's needed again.  Our energy supplier has applied this month's £66 to our account so our credit balance is hovering around the £462 mark.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.
  • With great reluctance I switched mine on this evening. I appreciate I am lucky to have got away without it for the last 9-10 months (I switched it off when I received January's energy bill, the house is just too large to heat for only me) but knew I would have to soon, just to make sure that everything is in working order - which than goodness, it is.

I got back from a longish walk at around 4.30pm and it was dark. I hadn't eaten all day, so treated myself to some buttery toast and a latte (still had my thick coat on with plenty of layers underneath so didn't feel cold) but could see my breath in the kitchen. The thermometer said 11.5degC so I realised it probably wasn't a good idea to hold off for any longer.

At the insistence of the DW, the heating went on yesterday. 16°C base temperature throughout the day (6:30am-11:30pm) with a boost to 19°C from 8pm until 9:30pm.

Most DIY problems can be solved by a combination of spanner, pliers, screwdriver, Allan key and a blade. (Hold it, twist it, cut it!) Very occasionally industrial language, a hammer and an adhesive may need to be added to the mix. (Curse it, hit it, patch it!)

Care is required! Its easy to become dependent on them, but EAI is not a good look:

Yes, important to use correctly. I boil ½ kettle, add ½ cold and use that.
