We gave in yesterday morning and had the Biomass stove running for 2 hours. The temperature wasn't too bad later in the day so didn't put it back on during the evening. We have triple glazing this year so it will be interesting to see how that helps to keep the heat in a bit. Biomass was on again this morning for a couple of hours and it is still a decent temperature tonight, thankfully. Mind you we are south-facing and have had a fair amount of sun in Hertfordshire today and that always helps.

Back home and still off. The kitchen is feeling a little chilly but I have tucked myself away under multiple layers and throws in my library and I it feels ok, as does the rest of the house. No point in heating the kitchen if I'm not going to be sitting in it.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.4 -
17.7 in living room this morning. I haven't succumbed yet but will be a good idea to run the boiler soon and will drain it down again at some point.4

I'm glad I had a test run with my central heating a while back as my pressure had dropped and its easier to adjust the pressure when your not shivering with cold.5

I am still trying to be reactive to the temperature, when it's dry and sunny I feel warm and no need for the heating, but on this awful windy and rainy days, I put it on before getting up, I have been putting my regular DD back into savings account while the gov money is paying my DD, so not to worried about putting it on, but only when I feel I need it, instead of having it on for the sake of it... Mindful heating ,today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.

I read a tip yesterday about using a hairdryer to blow out any dust or dirt that might be trapped in your radiators (while they are switched off) as it means they work more efficiently. You place a towel underneath to catch any dust.
I tried the upstairs radiator and nothing came out. I only moved to this house this Spring so I thought maybe the people before us had done this already. I tried the one in our bedroom and quite a lot of dust came out.
The radiators downstairs were absolutely full of dust, dirt and hair! It was gross! I had to use my vacuum cleaner as the hairdryer blew the dust everywhere. I'm definitely going to make sure I do this often. Expert says hairdryer hack could cut your heating bill by £625 a year - Berkshire Live
We watched a film last night and we were both chilly so we switched on our halogen heater for a few hours in the one room we were in instead of putting the whole heating on. I have to check how expensive they are to run, though.5 -
Yesterday morning saw frost then the afternoon was bright and windy so the washing was out in my west facing garden so the sun didn’t come over the yard arm as far as it does in summer. So I now have 2 days (I washed day before as well) washing on the airers and bannister rail. When GS came from school it was wet and windy he was wet and cold, I put the heating on as living room was down to 14 . It was on an hour, to get it to 17.
I switched the boiler back to water only before bed, so it won’t kick in until I flick it back to water and heating.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5 -
I second the fingerless gloves , they really make a difference. I can type in them and use the tablet.
I don’t understand using an electric blanket in bed in the morning? I am toasty by morning in my feather 13 tog duvet, and don’t want to venture out anyway, surely if it’s extra warm then actually getting out of bed is harder? Or am I missing something?Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
14.1 earlier up to 14.9 now and probably not going to any warmer today as it's colder than that outside and the full cloud cover and wet is set in for the day - with storage heaters there is no just putting them on because it feels a bit cold they have to be on the night before - I have a jumper somewhere and will need to look it out today. Only drawback to the air-fryer is it doesn't produce as much surplus heat as the oven.3
