Rosa_Damascena said:Its an incredibly pleasant temperature even though it is wet. I have so many coats and scarves and topped up yesterday in anticipation of the cold weather - 147 days of darkness starts in just a week's time
- that I plan to wear indoors now. To think I used to raise an eyebrow at aristocrats that used to run around their grand mansions in fur coats because they "couldn't afford to heat them", this was in the days before concern for the environment was well understood. Millions of us are in the same boat now!

Quite mild here with a top temperature of 14c but very dull with drizzle that looks set for the day, and possible thundery showers. Slightly better tomorrow, 15c and light rain showers, light cloud and 15c for Tuesday. Wednesday looks as if it will be the best day with 18c and sunny intervals, then it's back to more rain. Heating is on for 30 mins first thing in the morning, then we play it by ear for the rest of the day, with maybe a quick burst in the evenings for another 30 mins. All in all, not too bad so far.Be kind to others and to yourself too.4

Been a mixed bag in Berks. Went for an early morning run in thunder and torrential rain and got soaked to the skin.
Once dry and warm put a ton of layers on to walk dog only to bake in blazing sunshine. I can't keep up!
Apparently 18° outside. In the house (mid terrace) it's a lovely 19.5° downstairs and 20.8° upstairs so no need for heating, although I did sneak the electric blanket on for half hour this morning which was lovely!!6 -
That’s it - it’s officially Not Cold as we have an icecream van tinkling away at the end of our road! 😃I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6

20c today here in Brighton, hasn't been cold at all yet in October.5

About 12c here now so stove has been lit. Once it is on and banked it heats all the radiators and the hot water for dishes/showers. Restricting ourselves to half a small scuttle of coal an evening when we do light it..................
Four hour round trip to the office tomorrow leaving at 6am. Thanks to the Highland Clearances *sigh*6 -
It's not at all cold here, though it has rained quite non-stop since midafternoon. I'm sure we had a little thunder and lightning as well.
It's still 21.5 in the livingroom.6 -
We’ve had rain since mid morning til mid aft, then a blast of truly warm sunshine, then foggy nonsense. It’s trying to drizzle again now. Current temp about 14 ish.Oh and the icecream van did a roaring trade. Global warming - it’s not all bad ha haa!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7

Just dropped DGS Jack at work, and its a beautiful sunny 18c here in Kent ,more like spring than autumn, long may it last. it will help to keep the bills down.. No way is my heating going on yet ,the sitting room is 24c as its south facing and get most of the sun during the day and I keep the doors shut to the hall and kitchen .
Every little bit of warmth is hoarded like gold these day, with prices rising I think more and ore people are becoming concious of wasteage whether its food or energy. My two year service for my car is due this week and looking at the mileage I have only done 6360 miles in two years. But I only use it to take my DGS to work, or to visit my DD once a week or on a Tuesday to go to coffee morning ,then if needed, get my shopping and change my library books on the way home. if I need to go to the big shopping centre (rarely ) I use my bus pass as the bus is at the top of my road and it takes me to the middle of the shopping centre. Doing things this way I have halved my mileage, and consequently my petrol consumption as wellwin-win

JackieO. If there,s one good thing this cost of living crisis is doing it,s forcing a lot of people to think more seriously about how they spend their money which means people are focusing on essentials rather than luxuries and dealing a more self disciplined financial life as a result.
however in the wider economy this isn,t good for jobs and businesses if the country is to thrive in the long term so finding a balance is going to be mightily hard. Just thankful I,m not competing for the Hot Seat at No. 10, Getting it right and keeping everybody happy is well night impossible in the current economic world circumstances I reckon.10
