Is your heating ON or OFF?

Ah I've fallen off the wagon! Very chilly here today and that together with half term and a poorly child means I've given in.
Good luck to the rest of you!November Grocery Challenge £500/£950 -
Hiya, just reading some of the threads.Has anyone thought of doing some baking? I have just put 2 x large cakes in the oven. The smell of apples and spices is driffting around the house. This afternoon I am going to deliver them to 2 friends. The joy is in giving.
I will make some more another day for our family. If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
Surely a woodburner counts as heating?
Of course it counts as heating, (in the same way that hot water bottles and fleeces do), but it is not using gas from the central heating system and it is free as I scavenge for free wood.
I haven't entered this challenge to suffer the cold, just to save a bit of money and see how far it can go. However, I am no longer one of the stalwarts as from a few minutes ago I have caved in and put the CH on.
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Caterina, you might turn it off for a while when you are feeling better, I know for me a day or two of warning the house through made a difference... and now if I dont have it on for a few days it will go towards the bill at the end of the winter... but if it gets colder then I will have to cut back in another form..if I can.... :S0

Its snowing here so Ive raised the thermostat to 17 and the heating came on for 10 minutes so we can live with that.

Hi Gina,
You are right, I might turn it down once I feel better, then again I might not...half an hour into breaking the no-CH challenge I am feeling soooooo much better in the warmth, my fingers are not frozen while typing and it is making such a difference!
I am sure once DH comes home he will put it on the clock (I haven't yet figured out how to do it, but then again, I'm just a girl...;) ) and then we will still make economies but without freezing.
To tell the truth, I was starting feeling a bit deprived and my son did not have to whinge very hard to make me cave in! I am ok with the choice of putting it on for now. After all I do make so many savings in so many areas, that I now feel this is a good move!
I am not sure how I shall feel next Monday after I take my weekly gas reading, though! Watch this space!

I've just had to put the gas fire on for two shivery wet dogs !!
It wasn't their fault they had to have a bath....a big gust of wind swept them onto the dung heap over the fields and it took them ages to escape ! Poor creatures trapped and struggling with their legs in the air. :rotfl:
After looking very miserable and shivery for a while I gave in and now they look extremely content and pampered lying on a sheepskin rug in front of the fire !
I think I might go and curl up with a book in the same room so at least I get the benefit too.

I hope you feel better soon petal . We've kept the stove on today as it's perishing outside. Had to pop out this morning for our flu jabs and to collect a parcel that was delivered yesterday, but should have arrived on Friday by next day guaranteed delivery :rolleyes::rolleyes:. Came out of the docs and saw the branch of a tree lying in the car park - but just a bit too long to fit in the car and no saw in the back:o.
We're going to have to renew the asbestos rope seals around the doors on the stove - but it's been in several years so I can't complain - although £25 + vat for asbestos rope and a small bottle of the special glue seems a bit steep:eek:, still it only works out to just over £3 a year.
If the weather stays bright, but warms up a little we may go along the beach looking for driftwood tomorrow.

Thank you for your good wishes Unity, or should I say Caterina? Hehehehe suddenly I know what it is like for that bloke in Little Britain not to be the "only gay in the village" LOL
Are you actually Italian then? There seem to be a few of us around the forum, more or less in disguise!
