Is your heating ON or OFF?

Still no CH but wood stove on from the time it gets dark. It warms up the chill in the air and makes for a really lovely and homely atmosphere, on top of saving us a fortune in gas!
I keep taking my readings on imeasure.org.uk and I am using a regular 2 units of gas per week (an average of £0.77 according to their calculations), but my electricity is increasing, perhaps because of the nights getting in earlier and the need for more light - or perhaps because I spend my life in front of the computer? hehe

Surely a woodburner counts as heating?0 -
According to my weather station, it was 1.2c at 6:35am this morning - and it's currently at 1.9c.
I hope it gets a little warmer, for when I go to my job interview - otherwise it's going to be a chilly walk. :eek:Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -

It was -1.5c when I got in my car this morning and we are in the 'soft south', I wonder if it did snow in NI and Scotland as they said on the weather forecast.
Good luck for your interview Basmic x0 -
succumbed and put the heating on last night, but have adjusted the timers- comes on at 6.30 and goes off at 7.30am, on at 4.15 and off at 5.15pm, then on again at 8pm and off at 9pm.
Didn't have the gas fire on last night at all.
Opened the cooker door after last night's dinner had been served and it warmed the lounge whilst we were eating.Mortgage free as at 1/9/13 :j

Good morning all. Still no CH. We open the windows in the morning to air the house. Then as I am on holiday this week, do housework or go out. Later I will light the coal fire. We have been to a wood centre and picked up sacks of cheep logs. Sooo once the fire is going put on the logs to burn, cheeper than the coal.I have started to ware socks to keep feet cosy. Yesterday I bought a fleese covered hot water bottle. Oh the things we do eh?If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
Surely a woodburner counts as heating?
If it was say a Rayburn/Aga with back boiler and radiators that had to be on 24/7 for hot water and radiators then yes. However, ostensibly woodburners/multi-fuel stoves are usually fitted by working out the heat requirements of the one room they're in - height, width, depth to calculate the cubic capacity and number of kw needed. It's much the same as people putting on a gas or electric fire in the room they're occupying.
In addition, looking through the thread there's lots of ideas on alternatives to putting the heating on including hot water bottles, fleeces etc. I'm drawing the line at Billy Connolly's 'Big Slipper' here :rotfl: and I take this to mean heating in terms of what we have to pay for with the massive hikes in gas/electricity/oil etc. Whereas with a wood burner - in our case the heat is free, thanks to Freecycle and builders' skips. We added a shovel of coke last night - to keep it on as the temperature was set to really drop:eek: - but that was from a bag we've had since last winter. I left the living room and our bedroom doors open as thankfully hot air rises :j. I'll let it go out today and if necessary re-light it tonight.
Our next door neighbour had one installed just last week and said there was a queue in the shop for people wanting to buy them!

OMG! What a relief. When I looked into my e-mail yesterday it said I could view my bill online. All I could see what that my credit was -£280 as the statement wasn't available to read yet. The £280 was actually 4 months of direct debits that i'd already paid. I'd just assumed that I was £280 down after 3 monthly direct debits had came out. Sorry!
I'm actually only £16.80 underpaid. Even with leccy prices rising, i'm still less than I usually am (still too much I know). I'm not telling the kids though lol I'll still put them on a guilt trip.
It's like a weight being lifted from my shoulders!0 -

Yaaaay!jackieb! I am sat at back room window, watching the 2 feral guinea pigs sitting in the snow munching grass in next door's garden. This will be the second year they have spent living rough since they escaped from the scatty yuppies who live down the road ...0
