I was watching QVC at midnight and they're advertising 'Slankets'. I want one! I have fleecy blankets, but this is a fleecy blanket with sleeves - and it's 8ft by 4.5ft. D'ya think Martin could get a group discount for all us sitting here at our pooters? :D

mmmm I just saw the slanket. Just put a dressing gown on and a fleece on your knees. They are too long to be safe when walking around. I almost got tempted but stopped myself

Nope....I aint a gonna be tempted either. I have two fleece dressing gowns (which I am tending to wear round the house as cardigans) and throws in all sitting-round rooms. I dont see the point of having summat that isnt as multi-purpose as possible - anyways I can take off a dressing gown quickly when visitors call - wouldnt want to try struggling with owt else...:D

Hmmm...cant help thinking that if the manufacturers of this were seriously trying to warm us up - rather than their profits - that they would have added a monks hood to them as well (keep the head warm).
  • I know its depressing having to put it on but my one year old has been sleeping in vest socks pyjamas and sleeping bag and is starting to look like a michelin man! So on goes the heating and empty goes our bank account!!
  • It must be hard when you have little ones to consider.I know if mine were still at home they would'nt have been able to go without heating.
We were at our daughter's yesterday and she had her heating on and we found it so uncomfortable I think we're becoming too acclimatised.
I'm just so terrified that it's going to be a a realy cold winter as I don't want to end up in debt and be struggling next year because of it.
I'm afraid for us we're going to have to hold on as long as possible. It's not a matter of choice or getting one up on anyone like someone said yesterday it's just a matter of necessity.

I just saw the slanket on qvc being demonstrated. It is massive and looks very thin with wide, gappy sleeves. I couldn`t stop laughing as it is so impractical and very ugly

Easy to make something better and which will fit better, from 3 of asda`s £3 fleeces. Front, back and 2 rectangles for sleeves sewn over the top , all in all a T shape with open sides and joined at the top, leaving a hole for the head

Mind you we are all good osers and are ready and prepared for the big freeze

You all talked me out of spending my money on a slanket. I'll make do with the fleeces and dressing gown I already have. Thank you. I can always rely on someone here talking sense. :D

I am glad that we put the heating on last night and for an hour this morning. Two damp patches appeared on the kitchen ceiling so we have had to call the emergency plumber via barclays insurance (hopeless doing it this way by the way) he won`t investigate until we have cut access from the floor above. New house and very difficult flooring above so we need a joiner. Meantime no heating and in a complete and total mess. No water and joiner will be out tomorrow. Am I glad we acclimatised!!!!

We've had ours on for a couple of weeks for an hour each morning & evening......however, the controller took the huff when the clocks went back on Saturday and when the "on" time arrived it refused to play, so we now have no heating (not such a problem) but also no hot water apart from the immersion! Engineer due out this morning, but I would guess that there will be a wait "for the part" until later in the week. Am so glad we have a gas fire in the lounge & I've got lots of woolly jumpers & thick socks, with a blankie for sitting at the PC.

Same here Mrs T. It's really a matter of necessity for us too. I'm paying the maximum monthly DD that I feel we can afford. Any rise will be difficult, so it's a case of having to keep within that amount and not get into debt with it. I'm pretty sure I've manged to get a little credit built up on gas since I went on DD back in July, but it's probably no more than £30...ish. So, we really do need to hold out on the heating a little longer if possible.

I'm not really feeling the cold at the moment though. Like you and Kitty, I think I've aclimatised to some extent.....And although I feel a bit cold first thing in the morning, I'm able to ride-it-out, knowing that once I get going, I'll warm up naturally and be fine for the rest of the day.

It's actually been a good thing for me to do, as in the past I've been very wasteful and put it on as soon as it started to feel a bit chilly - hence, the huge bills I've acumulated over the last few winters. It's just proved to myself that I really didn't need to, and I actually feel healthier and less sluggish for it :D
