  • Well that's something I've learned mardatha,I did'nt think that guinea pigs would be able to live rough.I've always thought of them as delicate little creatures.Still I suppose if they've got plenty of grass and a warm whatever wild guinea pigs live in they'll be ok.
We have'nt had snow like you but it was very cold last night and frost this morning.I had to go round and open all the windows as they were soaking.
It's lovely and sunny now, nice realy.
No heating though to be honest I'm very confortable with my layers.
I can't believe how quickly October has gone only 7 weeks till Christmas for goodness sake.

Good news Jackieb. I would keep the kids on a guilt trip, they will benefit in the future. I got in last night to be welcomed by my 14 yr old whining he was cold, sat in front of the TV wearing jeans and a t shirt, his hoodie was hanging on the bannister. He will learn.

My daughter and myself snuggled up on the sofa to watch Sleeping Beauty last night. We had the duvet off her bed, 2 fleeces (sat on one as it's cold to sit on leather!) and a hot water bottle. She was complaining it was too hot. :D

Finally got the heating fixed - 18 months since I moved in it hasn't worked!

The fault was a dodgy synchron motor - £2.88 to buy and fit. Happy days!

Only manually turned on the heating twice last year, turned it on the day we fixed it to make sure it worked but it's been off again since (far too hot). Last night the fiancee was cold as she's dieting for wedding next year - two fleece blankets and a microwaved monkey stomach (that's the heating pad inside the cuddly monkey) later and she was much toastier.

Glad you explained that. Might have had to report you for cruelty to primates. :p

I wish I could find an energy monitor for a reasonable price! The cheapest I've seen is £49.00 for one you take room to room manually - but I suspect that woudn't be so good as one that shows energy use all the time - but they are £99!! Think how good that would be towards my heating bill:rolleyes:
I'd love it if anyone could recommend a cheap, good one.

My daughter gets cold in the morning so I put the heating on for her for about 45 mins (she's the only one earning any money so I'm duty bound as she contrbutes a fair bit, bless her.) Then I take her to work and rush home to try and benenfit from the warmth. I am amazed by how quickly I start to feel cold usually by 10.30am I have to start piling on the layers.

It doesn't go back on till about an hour after she has come home - by the time it gets to 18 deg we are nice and toasty (with help from throws) and can usually turn it off. Luckily we go to bed quite early.

Its certainly all about protecting myself from costs. Just can't afford to be more generous. The worst thing, as ever, is drying clothes. I keep asking on Freecycle for a dehumidifier as I beleive that would help. I am quite literaly terrified of using my tumble dryer. :(
    Stop looking for answers....
The most you can hope for are clues.....:)
  • I am telling myself that it is all in the mind and am psychologically warm enough!!!

Am still in a tip as the boarded floor still hasn`t been opened up so a plumber can get access. Joiner is coming after he has finished work, bless him and it is much appreciated. Then we have to get the plumber and I have everything crossed that the underfloor-on top of a ceiling-leak is coming from a blown knuckle connector, which will be quick to fix. Am worried though about how much floor will have to be cut up and how wet it is in there

I wish it was easy to get these sort of problems co-ordinated by someone else as it isn`t easy when you aren`t in that sort of business. Don`t mention homeserve anyone as they are terrible and so is barclays emergency insurance. I think it is so stupid to have water pipes of any sort under a floor

no water, no heating and day 2
  • I turned the heating on for the weekend as I had just come out of hospital and we all know what the heat in hospital is like... I'd spent a few days at my sisters and she has a new house with every possible heat saving device, came back to my old mid terrace and it felt like ice... but now I'm fine with my cardi and sleep socks on...

I just wish I liked using a my laptop as then I would go to bed earlier!!
  • To clarify.... I do also have other clothes on, not just a cardi and socks :D
