Our night storage heaters are just on low at the moment, but we're hoping to get a new ch system soon through the eco flex system. We pay a ridiculous amount of money each month for just electricity so I hope this comes off!

My heating is off.  It has been off since November last year.  I had been trying to keep my 50 year old oil-fired boiler going for the last 10  years by making repairs when it would breakdown, which it did regularly.  The boiler developed a leak in its water jacket about four years ago, which I repaired by adding proprietary chemicals to the circulating water.  This would last a year at first but this interval gradually reduced, so that after about three years the chemical would only last for about three months before the boiler would start leaking again.  Then, when it developed an electrical fault that needed and expensive component, I decided that it was time to not repair it any more.

I hope to get a new boiler this winter or in the spring.  In preparation for this, I spent yesterday dismantling the the boiler which comprised eight cast iron sections.  Then I put the pieces on the trailer and took them to a nearby scrap yard.  I am not sure when I will be able to get a new boiler.  It should be an easy job as all I need is a boiler, new pump and flue, but I hear that plumbers are hard to find these days so I might have to wait until the spring before I get a new one.  BTW,  I got £25 for the 210 kg scrap iron in the boiler.
  • We don't have our heating on yet, trying to keep it off as long as possible but we do have to watch the damp. Cold showers for me and DH until heating is on as we only have a small tank and our Daughter has the hot water for her bath. Once the heating is on we can enjoy the luxury of a warm shower again  :)

On on at 17 degrees during the day and 19 in the evenings. Ive decided to just leave it on now as its getting really chilly and I have a habit of letting myself get really cold then cant warm up. I suppose when you have dogs half the problem is having to open your door to let them out. Time to get a hat out for dog walking though.

  • My heating is off but the wood burner is on. It's not too cold in the bedrooms.
  • Still off here in Berkshire but I think I’ll put the winter duvet on at the weekend.

Heating on but low. However DH has two fleece blankets at night and I'm next to him sweating in t-shirt, starfished on the bed with top window open.

I've had to put mine on for an hour in the morning and an hour at night for showers.
  • Nothing on in the house yet bar electric blanket in bed.

I woke in the night and it was freezing cold so I twisted the dial and put the heating on for an hour. Luckily my house holds the heat once warm because the Condenser boiler is only feet away from where I sit.
