  • I just did a yougov poll on whether I had had the heating on in the past week. I was surprised to see that 60% of people said yes! Maybe it’s because we live in Berkshire and it hasn’t been frosty, or maybe we just have good insulation but it hasn’t got below 18 degrees in our flat yet so no need for heating here.

  • Lit the larger of our two wood burners (the Dovre, in the kitchen) the other day and was pleasantly surprised by how much warmer it is since DH fixed the kitchen floor :D Previously there was a hideous draft coming up from our undercroft below - the bonus being I don't need to keep stepping over an array of raised patchwork MDF boards! After more than a year of having to watch where I trod, it's actually hard to get used to a level floor....but I'm not complaining, lol!

Slept with a cotton quilt over the duvet last night and found I woke up less frequently ;)

Otherwise, still no central heating on......

Good lord - no heating yet at home, it's only October!

Work is rather different i that we have a huge high ceilinged office with shockingly badly fitting, single glazed and massive windows. Having said that the thermostat usually gets set at around 20 degrees C and it then dips on and off around that.

No heating for me either, Im down south so it hasnt been cold enough yet. I like fresh air too so the back door is still open all day.
Allowances for cold have been wearing 2 jumpers and ugg boots around the house and 10 minutes of the electric blanket before I get into bed!
  • Thermostat is set for 18c & it has been coming on for around 30mins in the morning & less than an hour at 5pm, on some days it's stayed off altogether.
I could probably survive without it as it's not feeling cold in the house. Over the past week it probably totals less than 5 hours of use.

I did have to crank up the heat on the electric shower this week so the mains water temp is starting to drop now. & It's getting darker a lot earlier.
Still using the summer duvet, sleeping in PJ's & have an extra blanket close by but not needed it recently.

nothing came on this morning which is what I wanted. Upstairs feels cool as expected. This zone thing and most new builds have them, it means that each zone calls for heating separately. If eg downstairs 4 zones are being warmed then there is no spare left for the upstairs radiators. I decided that I want some warm for showering and changing and I do know that breakfast warms me when downstairs. I have done a test, set the upstairs rads zone at 2 degrees higher and it has come on. Phew it never came on the other day but I decided it was because downstairs was also warming. So that sorts that and maybe it helps someone else with even two zones. After breakfast I will go and adjust upstairs timer so it is only on from 6-7, might be a different kettle of fish if winter is long and freezing as they are predicting

The only problem with this zoning thing is, I don't see that they are ideal for older houses that might be a bit damp. Surely these houses should be kept warm to maintain the fabric of the building.

oh yes, I agree with you, always kept warm, damp makes mold grow and that is a health killer. These zones are already in place, complicated to work tbh, at least was complicated to work out how to fine tune them. I`ll help my neighbours if they ask, I even managed to set the same on 7 days as it has a 5 day/2 day cycle set at the factory. Press one button/press 2 buttons together, press one button several times, once set I will not change it all year around. My minimum throughout the house is 20 but in reality is 18 because of the incorrect thermostats, every single one of them :(
  • It's horrible and rainy out there today. I put on a cardigan and socks but could not stop shivering as I have a cold.

    My heating has gone on!:)

Non stop rain here but actually quite mild so heating only on for a very shirt time at 6am. Trying to schedule my washing for days when heating is on indoors as I hang it all up in spare bathroom with a small window open and it actually dries quite quickly. With the thick items draped over the radiator and the lighter objects hanging on a two line Tidy Dry rollaway line I tend to treat this room as a laundry room these days which doesn,t make the it look very elegant but does make wet weather laundering more practical.
