Is your heating ON or OFF?

Annoyingly had to put the heating on for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon - not because we were cold but because I needed to put another load of washing on and the load from Saturday morning wasn’t dry yet! We don’t have a tumble dryer and it’s been constant rain. Thinking about investing in one of those heated airers - has anyone got one?Original mortgage free date: November 2044Current mortgage free date: November 2038Chipping away...0

a de-humidifier is better for the house. It dries washing but the moisture does not settle on walls, potentially causing damp. I used to have one with a laundry setting and I have also had a heated airer, the humidifier was better and quicker0

Our heating is fully automated and it's started to come on regularly - temperatures are definitely dropping and getting cool in the evenings.0

CH still off, wet but mild weather in London so we can still manage. But the air feels damp so a couple of days ago we had the woodstove on one evening.
Yesterday I wanted to get some logs from the woodshed but there was an enormous spiderweb complete with enormous garden spider between me and the woodshed. The garden spiders do such a great job of keeping the fly population down, I have great respect for them. Also they are all about to die in this season. I just couldn't disrupt it. We went to bed earlier with a hot drink, the web and owner were spared to go on for another day, at least. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
This all day rain, it makes me feel cold, just looking at it. I washed a lettuce and got a white finger, so have gone to put a camisole on, under an autumn knitted. The stove is set and I am so tempted to put a match to it. Actual indoor temperature is high enough but the psychological feel is not high enough. A bit of sun would make a world of difference0

Same here! Grey skies just finish me off. I have some favourite CDs with cheerful pieces of music which help lift my drooling spirits on such days.0 -
It was very wet, dull & gloomy at 16.30pm when I was leaving work. Almost looked dark, & made me think of winter when walking home & all the cars had their lights on so early.
Still pretty warm indoors, but the lounge (coldest room in the house) is now about 17c instead of the usual 18c or 19c, so the temp is slowly dropping.
Dehumidifier still puffing away, I leave it on overnight now & off during the day.
I expect when I have the heating on more I'll be using it less.it has made a huge difference to how warm & comfortable the house feels - especially the lounge which I've never really used much because it felt cold & uncomfortable. It now heats up quickly & feels toasty in there.0 -
Wondering if anyone is still holding out? I am, but I’m getting cold in the evenings now. Not so cold that I feel I need the heating but it won’t be long, if not for my comfort but the pets and my daughter. Electric bill has gone up with the nights drawing in and using the heated airer more so I’m making the most of the £6 per month gas as long as I can!0

Got the GCH on tonight, had it on for a couple of hours last night too and a night earlier in the week.
100 year old terraced house so it does get cold unlike modern sealed houses.0 -
Had mine on last night & this morning.
It came on by itself yesterday morning when the thermostat was set at 16c, so it's now turned up to 18c (which warms the house to 20c before clicking off) & I'll just leave it to do its thing, on a timer.
Last night it only came on for an hour & then another 30 minutes before the timer clicked it off.
It's currently just gone off from its 1 hour
in the morning & the house feels nice & warm to be getting up to.0
