I think it is better to keep the house walls warm, rather than have them become very cold when it takes ages to warm them up. Anyway that is what I plan to do, ch did not kick in this morning, house is still toasty. I think I will swap the summer duvet to the winter one soon, I`ll give it a good airing and then vac pack it so it is safe from moths0

This year, I'm with pattypan4. I live in a terrace with solid brick walls which hold moisture if it's been wet & cold. It takes an age to warm the house back up once cold, & get that damp out of the walls.
Mine's on the thermostat & timer now. It has been coming on in the morning & for about an hour in the evening. Today is warmer because it's raining.0 -
I was just wondering how many people have thermostats that have errors, still within the error range btw of 1-4 degrees. I did a test today, my lounge is set at 24 and the ufh has switched off but the actual room temperature is 22.4. A nice temperature for me first thing because shock horror, on my own, I eat my food on my lap in here. Upstairs rads have not come on, good and the kitchen/dining floor feels nicely lukewarm. It takes ages to cool down. I think I have done enough experimenting to take the 2 zones down by .5 of a degree. The thermostat goes down again at 8 for the day and I think the temperature will settle at a bit over 21
Is the express over the top? I have been reading about a very cold winter ahead, I suppose it is prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I can squeeze another 2 bags of smokeless briquettes into my bunker. Will do that today. I enjoyed the fire the other evening, was a good test. Fires always relax me to the point of nodding off. Fire is set, will just need a match, reminds me of young days, one fire in the house and no ch and getting the flame going with a sheet of newspaper to help the draw
Its my age now, I need to be warmer than when I was young0 -
The express say the next Ice age will be arriving every winter....
My thermostat is not very accurate. It is an old style analogue one & is on a cold brick party wall between the lounge & kitchen so I have to keep one or both doors open for it to actually measure the house temp properly. When I set it to 18-20c room temp it is actually 16c on the thermostat. I've figured out it's little quirks & can live with it for now. I'll get it replaced with a wireless digital one eventually that can sit in the lounge, bit for now it works well on a timer during the hours I'm at home & I just turn it up or down if the I want the heating on or off.0 -

When the thermostat is digital, we tend to believe that it's right, but the one here is about 0.7 degree low! Outrageous.
(Heating very ON, btw.)0 -
Probably a good thing to check all radiators to ensure they don't have cold spots and need bleeding. We have a combined one with a towel rail in the bathroom and the towel rail regularly feels cold which obviously reduces efficiency, temperaures and the drying of towels0

ooh yes too right primrose, I got lots of air from the ensuite which is my master rad. That dropped the ch pressure and I went and put a bit more water into the ch system, otherwise if pressure is low then ch might not come on. Aim for 1.2 when ch is off. We should all check in advance. My heating plumber said he is already very busy
coffeehound, all 5 of mine are wrong, all read too high by 1-2 degrees. Maybe people couldgo by apparent temperature and adjust to what is comfortable whatever the reading is. I repleced one in my old house it said to allow for 1-4 degrees inaccuracy.0 -
and that was digital but the older simple type, was set to fire a stove and the only thermostat in the whole house, insulation was so good that the bedroom rads were very tiny about 12 x 6 inches big but, that was the plan but on a freezing cold winter it became too cold so had to have an electric heater on. Thank goodness for gas0

Still not on here, but did use a hot water bottle in bed for the first time this autumn last night
I had an early night as DH was working late on the kitchen flooring (replacing some boards), so I had a long bath - a faff in itself as after almost twenty months here we still have to fill the bath with buckets, lol - and it was lovely to go from a boiling hot bath to a snuggly bed
Warm today, but might light the wood burner in the snug tonight as it's Saturday.......Mortgage-free for fourteen years!
