    Off here in Bristol.
I'm trying my best to hang on because I have night storage heaters & I know from experience that the 1st night of warming the bricks in each eater will cost ~£6 then come down steadily as less energy is required but it'll never be less than £3.50 a night from there on in. Luckily I've been paying enough over the summer not to worry but I'm still going to try to hang on in there.
For the time being I'll add more clothes & keep the dog on my feet!

Off here in Carmarthenshire, but we lit the wood burner in the snug last night as it was noticeably chilly after a lovely warm sunny day gardening. The snug is the darkest room in our stone cottage (why we chose to swap the kitchen and living spaces about) so lends itself to loads of lamps, candles and toasty throws but whilst being pleasantly cool in summer, it can be freezing in the colder months. Fortunately the wood burner takes very little time to get it cosy! After an hour it was way too hot so we stopped adding logs.....

Still too hot in bed for bedsocks (I only ever wear them for about fifteen minutes before having to cast them aside, lol!), but colder getting up this morning so glad of some warm, woollen tights and chunky cardi :D

  • Not had it on yet at all here in the West Midlands but getting very close. Was chilly last night but curled myself up in my beautiful purple fleece, a bargain buy gift from OH last winter, with a hot water tucked inside it, trouble being, I can’t knit when trussed up like that!
I’m quite happy if my feet are warm, so two pairs of thick socks worn.

I am just finishing my 4th burn in my new multi burner. This time I added a few premium briquettes and 2 thin kiln dried logs. It made a lovely fire and I believe I am using a good lighting method, given me by my son in law. Pyramid with a firelighter at the top and a small bit at the bottom. Lit the top one to warm the flue, leaving the door a bit open. Got to a nice draw and then shut the door and soon put the air intakes on 50%. Nice clean glass and a lovely steady fire. Was good practice, they have to light fires this way in sweden, it cuts down on pollution. So :j am now set for winter powercuts
Was still a bit of smell from seasoning but was hotter than the first three goes. One more should see the end of stove scent

Had to put it on today, the upstairs windows were wet through this morning and we already struggle with damp/ black mold in the upstairs rooms. I've set it for an hour in the morning and a couple of hours at night whilst we shower.

  • Had it on this morning for its timed hour & for 2 hours this evening. It was frosty overnight so I turned the thermostat up to make sure the CH kicked in before I got up.

Had it on this evening to get some warmth into the lounge whilst the mini dehumidifier runs overnight. I am still getting a bit of condensation on the windows - not a huge amount but I'd still like the air to be a bit dryer. At the weekend I'll be throwing all the windows open & have now bought a proper dehumidifier online to arrive on Saturday, so that should get the house feeling warmer & fresher, & help control my allergies.

Did put it on for half an hour this evening as the room was really cold.

Winter duvet came out at the weekend and I'm now in winter dressing gown.

I must say that I too have been finding it decidedly parky the last few days and after speaking to other local friends they agree with me.

I have been able to resist the heating so far, mostly by layering up or keeping myself busy. I've still got my summer duvet on, but the winter one will soon be making a reveal from it's current location in the vacuum storage bag. :D

I am hoping to put off switching the heating on until November, but I have to say I don't hold out much hope if the current temperatures continue. I am keeping my fingers crossed that temperatures will rise a little, but I somehow doubt it now given that we are to expect a harsh winter.
