Is your heating ON or OFF?

  • I put my heating on "advance" at about 13.30pm & it had switched off via the thermostat by about 15.00pm or earlier.

The house feels comfortable now. I expect it'll click on again later this evening.
I've also fully closed my bedroom windows. I usually leave them cracked open slightly to get some fresh air in, but it felt particularly chilly today, & there's no point letting the heat escape out of the window.
Bathroom window will stay cracked open, tho.

Just about to put the winter duvet on as I woke up feeling cold last night....
I'm a very warm sleeper, so it ruins my night's sleep if I'm not warm enough.
There's also something comforting about a heavy duvet in winter.

My wrist watch step counter is doing its best to prevent me from feeling chilly. Every hour, if I,m sitting down it buzzes and vibrates to remind me to get up and get moving and a little man appears jumping about and waving his arms about on the screen. Irritating at times but probably also a good way of reminding me to get my circulation going and not allowing myself to get too chilly.

I've tried waving my arms about in the armchair but that doesn't seem to fool it. It actually seems to require me to shift my backside from the chair and do a proper walkabout ! :rotfl: Thankfully it hasnt worked out how to get me on my exercise bike and linked into the grid to generate some electricity yet.
  • I've given in  ................... mine went on at 7.00am for 2hrs. Well, at least I thought it had gone on for 2hrs !

Stoopid ME - I'd flicked the switch from 'Off' to 'Constant' instead of 'Timer' ! OH has been toasting his backside off all day, while I've been out :embarasse.

I caved and put mine on for a bit on Saturday, and again yesterday! I made it to the 27th, and I was aiming for November 1st, so I think I did pretty well. :)
Indoor thermostat was saying 20C, and I'm more of a 23C girl. So I put it on until it gets up to that, then it goes off.

  • Finally on! Bedroom went down to 14 degrees yesterday and it's decidedly nippy. We gave it an hour's test run, then I popped it onto the timer. It is set for an hour in the morning (6-7) and an hour in the evening (8-9) this should be pretty sufficient for the moment and we can always turn it back off if we like!

In an ideal world, I'm a 26 degree girl :D

But in real life, where financial constraints are a reality - the thermostat is set to 18.

VfM you and me both! I'm always cold and would love to be warmer. But manage with extra layers and the thermostat set to 18. My house is cold even though it's a fairly new build, it faces an open field at the back and we're quite high up.
I only had the new boiler put in last year and wasn't sure what temp to set it to, as the old boiler just had a dial with low to high on it .
It's only set from 4 to 8 PM to come on if below 18. But if I was in all day and cold I would override it.

    I'm on a timer with my c/h - 7.00-9.00am and then 7.00-10.00pm - set to 22C.

I have a 'downstairs, unheated porch' when I come through the front door - then a flight of stairs up to the landing (with radiator) - with all rooms leading off the landing.

There are no doors at all where the stairs are, so any cold from the porch eventually makes its way up to the landing - making it feel cold/draughty :(.

The c/h temp control is right at the top of the stairs, but I turn OFF the radiators in both bedrooms and lower the ones in the kitchen and bathroom - unless I'm having a shower ;)!

Ollie Yiu might find a thick curtain covering the height of your main front door which you could pull over at night , or even during daytime when you're there on cold days might make a difference to shutting out some of that cold air from your front porch

We have a UPVC front door with the windows in the upper part double glazed immediately at the bottom of our stairs and pulling the curtain over it at night makes a considerable difference to the amount of cold air which drifts upstairs
