I'm still thinking of investing in a SAD alarm clock, to wake up to a "sunrise".
They all look fairly expensive & fiddly to use on Amazon, so I'm in two minds.
The heating did actually click on this evening at 5pm, but only for an hour.
I'm getting used to running round & drawing all the curtains at dusk now.
Winter coat has been tried on again, it still fits even though I've lost a bit of weight. May be using that next week on my early morning walks to work.0 -
How's this for embarrassing: I had family over this afternoon and into the evening, and was embarrassed to be told the house was cold! I'm usually the first off the mark to complain about the chill, so maybe I've got used to it? On the other hand, we started at the back of the house where it was very pleasant as it had been a lovely day, when we moved back inside I was busy running around looking after everyone so perhaps that's why I didn't notice! I had decided to switch it on from tomorrow because of the weather forecast, but I guess it will have to be this evening.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I got a £25 from Aldi just to test it out. It's probably not as smooth as one of the expensive ones with the light coming on in jumps rather than more gradually but I do like it. It's not a SAD light, but the light tends to start to wake me up before the alarm goes off so it's a much more gentle wake up than being jolted to a loud alarm. Plus there's about 10 different alarm sounds - I liked the idea of a dawn chorus till I actually tried it, now I go for the sound of the sea.
I'll definitely get another as and when this one dies. Although I'd probably invest in one with a better sunrise, this was good for seeing if the concept would work for me or not.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

First I set my nest for 21 in early-mid Sep.
Then I moved it to 22 early Oct.
Tonight I’ve changed it to 23.
Its getting cold :-( I think 23 will be perfect though.
I got my winter coat out this morning & wore it to work today.
Winter is almost here in the SE.0 -
Mine has been coming on once or twice a day for a couple of weeks now but it is set for only a few hours a day. The critical thing for me is when I have to have it on all or most of the day, then I can see the bills rising rapidly. However, I am a few hundred pounds in credit with the fuel provider so I have a cushion in case of extreme weather over the winter. I would do anything rather than be cold.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Off for me - but we are currently away for a few days in Portugal!
nFully expecting to need it on when we get back (tomorrow) - minus temperatures forecast at home next week. Although the system is currently empty (drained) due to work earlier in year..... fingers crossed it all goes back smoothly...…….

Want to try and prepare for winter. I am trying to replace my current British Gas thermostat ( without timer) to a British Gas WPT1 so I can set times for heating. Should be easy - NOT. The new thermostat is not communicating with the British Gas receiver BR2 at my boiler. The old thermostat still does but I cannot get the new one to work with the receiver.
Your advice would be much appreciated as all contacts so far have proved unhelpful.0 -
Switched on Storage Heater 1 last night, it takes a couple of nights to properly warm up. Was trying to hold off until 1st November but it felt icy (I'm sure it wasn't, just felt it) and this morning I turned on the electric heater in the kitchen and set it to 20, it warmed up straight away. We'll also have more oven cooked dinners as the weather gets colder to help keep downstairs warm.
Never heat upstairs but do have electric blankets for the beds which are still in the drawer. Got them a couple of years ago when I kept waking up cold despite several layers. I think they're expensive to run but it's a cost I'm willing to pay for sleep.Debt Free: 01/01/2020
