Thanks,We could have are council tax reduced and help with heating, but all bills are in my name (we aren't married) so makes it harder.0

Ours went on on Friday night. We had the inlays round to babysit and put it on for them but it'll stay on now. Looking forward to Halloween and bonfire night. Love this time of year.0

Heating here WOULD be on today ….the council are, however, currently repairing the system (I live in a sheltered/retirement block)…. We have been given a small electric heater to plug in whilst repairs are ongoing
In addition, I have stripped the bed and will be putting on the thicker 'winter' duvet for tonight.0 -
I had to look Nest up as I hadnt heard of it...is it like Hive?
Much better.
So I have it set for on 24/7.
Low 15 at night and 21 day & evening.
But it’s linked to my phone, so when I go out it knows I’ve gone and turns the heating to eco (which is about 10 I think - but you can adjust to whatever you want).
When I come back home, when I get within range it knows I’m almost home and switches it back on.
It’s “smart” though, you don’t have to set it, you can just move it up and down and it will earn your preferences.0 -

I have'nt turned heating on yet but then we don't have children at home anymore. The cold is'nt a bother to me so am lucky. My gas bill is usually pretty low.:T0

I bought a second hand dehumidifier earlier this year and decided to run it as an experiment downstairs in the living room. It has collected over three quarters of a pint of water already. It was on for about four hours last night and has been on about the same already today. There are no obvious signs of damp anywhere so I didn't expect it to collect so much so soon!
I have been reading that moist air makes you feel chilly and is harder to heat up than dry air. We thought we would try it out and I must say the house does feel more comfortable today than yesterday. It will be interesting to see how/if it helps in the long term.:hello:  please play nicely children !0 -
That,s interesting because I,ve never thought of our house being at all damp as it,s very well insulated. However with two, people breathing in and out all the time we,re here there must be more moisture in the air than we realise.
If yiu go outside on a damp day it obviously feels a lot chillier thanif the atmosphere was dry so there,s no reason why the same rule shouldn,t apply indoors. Food for thought although I don't know whether there is any cheaper and more efficient way of extracting moisture from the house han using a dehumidifier.0 -
In my experience a dehumidifier definitely makes it feel warmer. I understand they're pretty cheap to run, but they're not super cheap to buy. I couldn't show you the maths of the operating costs though.
I've had mine for years, I use it most when line drying laundry in the winter, it makes a big difference.0
