someone said they put a 'blankey' (not sure if that was a typo or it had belonged to a child) over their knees.
.
No Maman that was probably me, as my numerous grandchildren have all had their 'blankey's' knitted by me for them over the years
My eldest DGS is 28 and married and living in NYC and took his West Ham colours 'blankey' with him when he moved out there two years agoI knitted it for him when he was 11 and he loves it .
The kids called them that when they were small and the name just stuckI have a very well insulated mid terraced house which isn't very large and doesn't cost me an awful lot to keep warm anyway My combined gas and electric bills are only £45.00 per month so it really is not expensive to run. I am not a person who feels the cold much but when I am sitting knitting as I do quite a lot of I do like to keep my feet warm and a 'blankey' over my knees is more than enough.I live in the south of England and so far its not been too cold to even warrant putting my electric fire on in the sitting room, let alone my central heating. But once it gets really nippy it will go on as I too don't believe in being cold.
Normally unless we get a really cold snap its around late october or early November before it goes on and then only as and when needed

I do appreciate that for some people saving money is absolutely essential but although I enjoy the challenge of being mse:money:I draw the line at muffling myself up indoors. Yes, I'll wear socks and a jumper but I'm not wrapping myself up with hot waterbottles
I don't consider myself to be mean, but the fact is there's only one of me and I'm lucky enough to live in a relatively spacious home. It's also a house of extremes - it's been incredibly hot this summer because of the conservatory on one end of the house, but because of the solid walls, it's also like an icebox in the winter. Yes my CH will kick in when it's actually cold outside, but to heat the whole home when I'm feeling a bit chilly and staying in one place to read / write etc seems profligate. I was walking yesterday evening and was dressed lightly but it was positively muggy (my perfectly straightened hair was once more it's mass of Cher-like tresses within minutes). So definitely not time to flick the switch just yet, for me at any rate.

Out heating is set to come on just before we get up for a couple of hours. My clothes and sweaters are laid over the radiator so I have nice warm things to put on which helps keep me insulated. Trying to remind myself to do a few minutes of exercises every hour just to keep the circulation going. Had flu jab this morning. I've had my thermostat turned up last week to 18c to come on in the mornings for an hour before work - the house must be warm as it hasn't been coming on! Same again in the evenings.
I did turn it up one evening to 20c, then turned it back to 18c as I got too warm....
So far, my heating is off as it's actually not that cold. I do sit in the lounge of an evening under a fleece blanket, but that is mainly because I don't see the point of using gas to heat the whole house from 17c to 20c just to watch TV & then being too warm in bed.
Once it gets colder, the thermostat will do its job.0 -
We are off at home but gas fire at the caravan is on as it’s really cold inside the metal boxOne day I might be more organised...........

Lil_me, this shows how much decent insulation helps in keeping warm... We have an electric heater in the camper van and while I hate to have it on for safety reasons we still need it when we go away in autumn as it gets chilly so quickly.
My heating on and off at the same time... I live in a block of flats and while the heating is on I have my radiators switched off. But my downstairs neigbours have the heating on and I bet they have it on as high as it gets.... They are an old couple from the South of Italy so I guess they are used to heat and never wearing a jumper... I bet they're sitting in their flat with 27°C in short sleeves and bare feet in mid winter while I struggle to sleep as my bedroom is too hot...
I'd love to sit on the sofa with a blanket or retire to bed when it is too cold in the evening but na, no chance while they're living here...
And I can't even do something about the cost of the heating as the total is just devided by the number of square metres...Fashion on the Ration 2022: 5/66 coupons used: yarn for summer top 5 /

Still OFF here - today looked damp/miserable this morning, but turned into an absolutely beautiful day. I went out wearing a cardigan and fleece jacket and had to take the fleece off because of 'over-heating' :j. Left the curtains/blinds open - on my huge window - to allow the living room to absorb some of that lovely 'free heat' from the sunshine :T. Closed them as soon as the sun went off the windows to trap the warmth in the room

Off here at the moment,we usually use CH very little in winter due to cost. The house is well insulated,so a electric throw and furry dogs keep us warm.Oh has now been told he has advanced cancer so he is going to need the heating on , won't be easy with only ssp and pension coming in.Hopefully we can hold out couple more weeks before putting on.0

Sorry to hear that.
Could he apply for pip, that would help with the heating cost and could you a apply for the warm home grant ?.
Wish you both the best Xx.0
