I haven't had my heating on at all this winter, or last. I must be hard core. I have a fantastic log burner which I light maybe once a week when I fancy a cosy night in.
I pay £13 a month gas and electricity.

WOW thank god you dont invite me in for a cuppa on the 6 days you dont have heat...!!.but as long as you are happy living like it thats ok....
Ive got my log fire a light and its very cosy as its so bitter outside
and the forecast is very cold and snow ...Keep warm folks....

  • This may sound daft but I find low/soft lighting helps me feel warmer.

The overhead light in my room seems to have a 'cold' effect but using two small table lamps plus a candle or two seems to give a warming effect.

I think a lot of it is psychological. I've got an elderly frugal uncle who puts on one of those 'fireplace' DVDs when he wants to warm up! :rotfl::rotfl:

Oh how funny how I laughed out loud when I read that!

Anyway, snow up here in Northumberland and the heating has been on all day and the log burner is currently doing what burners do! Dog on sofa watching it, cat stretched out making the full maximum exposure to it!

Yes he's a true thrifty Scot. Got the DVD in a pound shop. His eyes lit up while he was telling me about it!

The odd thing is it doesn't work the other way. During a heat wave last year I played youtube videos of fountains, icebergs etc but didn't feel any cooler!:rotfl:

  • My house is still cold even after having the heating on all day. And thats with fully double glazing and 300mm loft insulation. Pointless putting heating on when it's really cold outside.

Most definitely on 24/7 until it stops snowing/freezing/sleeting or whatever else it does that I hate ;)
  • Im very cosy tonight as I have a roaring coal and log fire going ,its keeps me roasting nicely in the one room...Gas central heating will come on early in the morn.....

I do love my open fire and light it everyday late afternoons, but you cant beat the flexibility of gas central heating to get rooms warm with in a few mins of turning it on......especially on the cold frosty mornings weve had for the past week...Keep warm folks....sheila

Off here. It's 15 degrees and I'm snuggled under my 60% wool blanket I got for a fiver from Ikea.

I've been in this house from just before Christmas and I've already spent £70 just on gas. I'm struggling. :(
