  • Hmmm!! My storage heater is on now. Too hot in the lounge now... But I know by this evening it will be warm. I was out last night, but felt cold when I got home at midnight. The temperature in my flat was 13 for the past week, but dropping and its meant to be getting colder. Outside temperature here at present is 3. Im only running one storage heater as my bedroom one gets far too hot so I have an electric blanket on for half hour before I go to bed.

Still off, but weather forecast for next week looks colder, I'm hoping they're wrong again. The sun is shining through front windows so I'm hoping we are catching some warmth there. I usually hate washing up but there is a large pile waiting to be done this morning, so that will warm me up :D
We've made it halfway through November, so that has to help with the bill - I haven't worn my long johns yet, saving them for real cold (frost) so hopefully we can keep going. But I have to say, I'm not enjoying it. :(

Still off here. Trying to go without the 10 mi warm up in the mornings, as it's not really needed and i am trying to get used to the colder weather so it's not such a shock when it's actually really cold.
  • To those that don't put heating on even when it's cold do you not get damp/condensation due to this?

No far from it. But I do leave my bedroom window slightly open at night for ventilation. I also use a dehumidifier to dry my washing after ive aired it outside for the day (under cover). As long as you have adequate ventilation you shouldn't get damp or condensation

We have always had problems with condensation upstairs in our house. It's an old house with aluminium windows, so it's a nightmare.
I just leave the windows open a crack upstairs and that seems to clear the condensation within an hour.
  • Only asking as when we had a rubbish old boiler we had really bad damp. It has been much better since new boiler was put in and we heat more though I guess every house will be different though as it depends on many factors

  • Mine has been on off on off the past few days. I had it on for a few hours yesterday morning, off all afternoon then on again in the evening.
It's currently off at the moment, but I find around lunch time is when the flat feels coldest, but it's okay at the moment.

I think ventilation is just as important as heating.. if you have really cold house with no air in it then it will get damp. If you have a really hot house with no air in it then you will get mould. You need ventilation.
  • I've been testing out the thermals, onesie and comedy slippers... so toastie the back door has been open all evening.

Although I'm going to have to change gas supplier if there are any out there that don't do standing charges. E-on have reduced my direct debit by a tenner and I'm £46 in credit, but looking at the last two bills; i've paid over £50 for the last 6 months but under a tenner of that was actually on gas.

I think most suppliers do a Tarif were by you don't pay a standard charge, but pay more for any gas/electricity used
My Aunty is in a home, so her home is empty, so this is what we do as we do need to put heating on sometimes when it is freezing.
