Ive got my fire a light in sitting room, but feel very tired so wont be long before I go to bed , thats the only problem with a open fire , the warmth soon sends you to sleep , rather look at the flames than the tv..........

Think we all in for colder weather next week, it will be nice , because it should be frosty and cold by mid November.........

I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
    Still OFF here today.
Had the windows upstairs open until 3pm.

I did think about turning it on at tea-time, but then i thought that standing over a hot grill and bubbling pan would warm me up, and it did :) Then i had a beer, which always warms me up a few degrees (my face gets very flushed as soon as i drink any alcohol at all..i have no idea why!).
So then i told the kids to tell me if they were cold, but they havent yet..so it's still off.
Hopefully it'll stay off until at least tomorrow!
  • Just had a bath, so sitting here in a towel and slippers.

Living room is at 58.3f (14.6c) and it doesn't feel cold at all.

Still off here - got our new RC thermostat today - will programme it tomorrow.

Decided to set it at 18 degrees twice a day 6am-7am and 1730-2030 mon- friday, 7am-9am and 1730-2030 at the weekends - that should be enough to keep the place toastie when needed and stop DD moaning :)
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

  • Eon hit me with it in about March, they lowered the unit price but charge the standing charge, be fine in winter with the lower units but when you use under a tenners worth of gas in 6 months over summer you don't want to pay £8 a month for the pleasure of having it.

Well that's E-On sodded off and back to NPower. unit price is about .2p more but standing charge is 14p a day compared to 27p a day. I don't mind paying a little bit more when I do use gas but as mentioned, it really boils my p*ss paying £48in standing charges in 6 months whilst only paying £9 for the actual gas.
  • Our heating is off because it's broken :(

Getting some good tips from you all on how to keep warm until the boiler man comes round next week. Thank you!
  • Get a onesie! and i feel dirty saying that... but earlier i had a jumper on under it and big comedy slippers. I had to take the jumper and slippers off because I was roasting; the back door has been open all evening as well but I'm nice and warm

Sort of ditto here, broken mains pipe under the kitchen floor, two plumbers out since Thursday evening, lots of sucking through teeth and that is going to cost you a fortune but I am too busy to fix it :(

I can cope with the no heating but the no water malarkey is getting me down. Have been buying the 5 litre bottles of water to fill the loo tank, tomorrow I am going to try and pump up from the old well in the garden.
  • It is with some relief :) and a lot of anxiety :( that I have turned the heating on, on the timer of course.
We have been feeling unwell, the damp, mould and condensation have been difficult to stay on top of and we just haven't been warm from the moment we got out of bed, even with layers on.
So, we are going to be warm and will have to find the money for the bills somehow, somewhere. Health comes first.
Good luck to you with broken boilers, or who need to keep it off for as long as possible, I wish you well.
  • Heating on atm, but not, primarily, to heat the house.

I did laundry yesterday evening, then woke up to a misty morning, so couldn't put it on the line, hence the heating going on to dry the laundry.

Just hoping having the house very warm for a few hours (currently 61.7f and rising) doesn't turn me soft. :D
