  • heating is off here, I am wrapped up and look like the Michelin man!!! pyjamas, dressing gown, and thermal slipper things, I have lit candles but the air feels cold, I can see my breath. I have hot choc and waterbottles on my lap . I am not putting the heating back on unless it freezes outside. I was on a no standing charge pre pay meter but they wrote to tell me they will charge me just under 3 pounds a week , I can only afford 5 pounds a week as it is so 2 pounds gas wont last 10 minutes!!! I have applied for overtime at work, but everyone is after it so I am not holding out much hope. I do have a second job but haven't had any work from it this last 2 weeks so feeling the pinch. I am penniless because of my daily commute, which I am able to change in December so will save me £90 a month, from dec it will only cost me £40 a month. instead of over £130!!

On now. I've compromised. We have two storage heaters, so I'm putting on one at a time and alternating them to try to warm the flat up but not get it too warm. It still gets too hot in the room where there's one on though!

I must be the only person in this thread who keeps opening the doors to let the heat spread out over the flat instead of trying to keep it in the room...

I never close any doors in my house. I hate cold spots
  • I don't have a door between my living room and hall, but I have hung up a curtain to stop drafts. I have a face flannel pinned to the inside of the front door over the letter box, a draft excluder, a blanket, a slanket and candles, and I've still put two of the storage heaters on low output to keep the edge off. They take so long to heat up, I have to plan ahead and it is supposed to be stupidly cold over night all this week.

I'd like to have something I can just put on timer, but that isn't an option with my heating. Which is annoying.

I have storage heaters too. The biggest one is in my hall. I put it on a few days ago and keep my bathroom and bedroom doors open so the heat can spread...

I think quite a few ppl use their storage heaters this way. They are on 24/7 anyway, they are quite hot in the morning (that's when I leave my doors open)

On for an hour to get up to, maybe on later. Yesterday was quite warm so not needed last night. My sitting room is open plan so I leave my bedroom and bathroom doors open (I don't do cold bathrooms!) and as the sitting room heat rises it keeps them warm also.
