  • Ours isn't on although it does get used for the odd couple of hours every now and again if it is too chilly. I found going out for a bit for just a walk or take the kids up the park make the house feel warm again when you get back in :)
Nothing to see here, move along.

You are so right about the candles, when it gets really cold we have a lot of tea lights that I buy through the year when I see them cheap and a couple pillar type candles burning,we can get the temp up to 20 in LR.

Incredible as it may seem, you can raise the temperature in a snow hole, to a degree or two below freezing, with just one candle.
  • having an old plasma telly has a similar effect, another good reason not to chop it in for a new LED one

Not having a TV, I'm able to put the £145-50pa toward my energy bills.

Our heating is off. I will probably give in and put it on this month.

I always feel cold if I stay in my outdoor clothes if I've been out walking so I get changed into my jammies when I get in. Is that just me who does that?:o:rotfl:

I think it must be just you, as I never get changed into your jammies. :p
  • I'm interested to know - if you have a temperature thing in your house- how warm (or cold is it!) without the heating on? Our living room is around 14/15 at the mo...the bedroom a smidge less. We've had the heating on a handful of times this Autumn so far, but no doubt it's going to be back to twice a day very soon. :)

Very interesting to hear about how candles can heat the room a smidge, just make sure your smoke alarms have been tested and be careful ;)

This time of year without the heating, the lounge reads around 15.5/16C...dining room and kitchen colder as get no sun...old Victorian terrace here...heating on from time to time, esp if have washing, but only set to 17.5 max...candles definitely help and hoping the door curtain does too whilst we get round to sorting additional insulation

My thermostat says 20C. No wonder I haven't had my heating on yet this year. Although, to be fair, I had the kitchen going at full-wack earlier, and the computer has been on almost all day, and they give out a good heat.
My flat generally seems warmer in the evening than it does in the day. Particularly if I've cooked.
