I'll flick over during the breaks. Our place is so low brow we'll be talking about the BFGW - they take the Micky out of me for watching C4 news! :rotfl:0

Thanks KC. Therein lies my debt problems! (and perhaps many more people besides me).
Well of course you are right. I do want my home to look a certain way, but that's not because I'm out to impress, more that I'm creative by nature and appreciate aesthetics. I realise that makes me sound shallow but I'm just being honest.
Anyway, I do like to daydream, but these days I do come to my senses once I have to part with the cash. I often shop online, putting things in my "basket" then shut down the browser, so I'm pretending to buy - then don't. I know that sounds totally weird, but I am a bit of a magpie and perhaps I just like to "consume" (best stop before this turns into a therapy session!)
So the shutters *will* wait - they're a want not a need, the living room is to be done first and perhaps the shower. We have savings put aside for these - the rest can wait.
Thanks again :A
No no, thank you - and that basket thing - I've just started doing that myselfWhat you've said about the priorities makes absolute sense, and I do understand the aesthetic of the place - I'm only *just* realising how important that is, I don't think enough attention is paid to that, truthfully, the effect a place has on our emotions - it always seems to be about consumerism, and its not, not at all.

I watched Jamie's 30 Minute Meals, which I just discovered at the end of last week2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I watched half the bank programme, but Robert Peston's voice drives me mad. Plus I was so tired I kept drifting off.....and I needed to be awake to go and collect DD at 10.30, so I picked myself up and went and had a quick coffee at the ski club instead.
As for homes, and what goes in them - I am learning lots too.....I thought I had packed only (or almost only) those things that I really wanted to bring with me, but on unpacking several boxes I have looked at the contents and not had any inclination to have them surrounding me. As a result, I have some serious thinking to do about whether to keep things - some of them can simply be boxed and put in the loft pending a proper, less hasty, decision - eg cut glass crystal.....but other stuff, such as a very nice tall cabinet, but which I suddenly don't fancy in my new life, need me to decide for definite because there is no where to put it until I potentially change my mind!
I'm not sure if that makes any sense, but what I think I am saying is that it is only when we are in a particular house/home that we can work out what it is that we want surrounding us - all our ideals and preconceptions that we had don't always bear any relation to what we find ourselves actually wanting or needing.

Oh thats true! A perfectly nice piece of furniture/lighting might simply not "go" with a particular house, or even a particular room.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

or simply with a particular point in your life!! My cut glass stuff, for example, has suddenly started to scream "wedding present" at me.....not necessarily what I want surrounding me as I enter this new phase of my life :rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hello!
Got back from my travels at 2am this morning after fog delayed our flight  Anyway, I'm very much in housey mode today; general cleaning/washing /boring duties of course - but I've also made a couple of purchases.
I got a cabinet which I have coveted for a looong time and got it for less than half price because one of the ring handles is missing! :j :money: :j :money: :j
I'm delighted as I really love it. I have seen it in the shop for months and always loved it. DH saw it last week and liked it too, but I wanted more time. Anyway, we can collect it in 2 weeks and will be a welcome addition to our sparcely furnished living room
I also got a coffee table. Again, I've liked it for a while, looked for others on Ebay etc but when I went in today it was reduced by 70%!!!! Meant to be! Again though, I left the shop, came home and had a think, reasoned and then decided - s*d it, we will use it loads and I really like it, so drove back to buy it!
Tomorrow I'm hiring a carpet cleaner to do the carpets and sofa and then next weekend, I *might* start decorating the living room
Hope life is treating you well if you're reading xx0 -
Am so proud of you stepping away and thinking before purchasing as I know that's amassive step for you.0

and you sound so thrilled - which I bet you wouldn't have done had you bought them without thinking first time round.
This "stepping away" lark really does make you appreciate it when you DO then buy it, I reckon!
Hope you have a fabby weekend xxSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Thank you both, lovely ladies!! :A:A
Had the usual round of ballet and swimming lessons today - only DD1 does ballet (the little one gave up, of course) but both swim so I've shelled out £80 today
Other than that had a NSD, so proud of myself there. I definitely am not spending willy-nilly like before. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything - there's no need to consume anymore and it feels good to be in control and calm about money at the end of the month
Why did it take me 40 years to get to this point?! Wish I'd have learnt sooner :wall: Still, some people never learn - so better late than never!!! :T Plus as DH said, when you have to wait for things it tastes so much sweeter when you do get it - and it certainly does!:D:D
The girls went out with my sister this afternoon, so I had a quick blitz round the house and then DH and I did a 10k run in 60.38. I managed a soak with my Jo Malone bath oil before they returned so a nice afternoon was had by all!
Hope everyone's well - good to see a stretch in the evenings, Spring's on it's way :j0
