  • I doubt very much you will find many people who have been in a situation where they take "their partner's son, her emotions and everything else out of the equation."

That's not how relationships work which is why you are not going to get the answers you want.

Sorry ......but it is like watching an Episode of Sorry....starring Ronnie Corbett

You could sell your house that your mate is keen to buy and move in with her.

Good memory Dave...there are some issues with Jackie....regarding me going to HER home!!

I believe the 50k is his approximation of what they would have saved thus far and not a sum Jackie actually owes him (please don't give him ideas LOL!).

He's mainly talked about the relationship in terms of his expenditure on her and capacity for future savings so I thought I'd run with his logic.

She's drained him and its payback time.

If she's on a lower income, perhaps he'd accept payment in kind?

Money saving would be you living with her. Low cost housing and utilities split 3 ways.

Just like you don't want to live with her son, she doesn't want to live with you.

For Jackie she's already splitting the cost 2 ways, she won't be financially better off will she (actually your place probably'll cost more).

So in the interest of being on MSE forum, then someone is saving money.... just doesn't happen to the person posting haha (sorry but this really has tickled me, recession = romance dead).
Inside this body lays one of a skinny woman
but I can usually shut her up with chocolate!

When I thank a post in a thread I've not posted in,
it means that I agree with that post and have nothing further to add.

    LOL honestly - some men!
It can be if you go on your own! :)

The lodger idea is a good one. Get a female lodger and you never know you might be able to cut your losses in one fell swoop.

If she were to be a money saver as well, you’ll have cracked it for life.
  • I have read an article on here that states the cost of living alone would total £5,000 per person per year.Doing the sums I think that that has so far cost us £50,000 between us.

If the relationship were to last in this form another 5 years that would be £100,000.What I am in fact doing is investing big licks in her independence.....which I don't particularly want her to have.

Can I just establish what payments you have made which constitute an investment in your partners independence?

I weren't going to charge her much board....she would be considerably better off....anything would help!!

    no c/tax....gas leccy water....food bills cut....cheaper rent.....

You women are really colonial when it comes to facing the truth!!!

WE WOULD BOTH BE BETTER OFF!!!

Yes, apparently she owes you a debt from your investment and you require a strategy to repay this and cut down costs going forward.

If she has a low income, and owes you big time as you indicate, then bartering is surely a potential option?

But by the sounds of it, you didn't have any written agreement about the need for her to repay your generous loan, though.
