Why not? There are other gyms out there that let you pay as you go and there are ones that tie you into a contract. Your choice which to use. As with most things in life.

They know darn well that a lot of people stop going after the first few months and it's a way of getting extra income.

There's also the gyms that make it very hard to cancel a contract and carry on taking money even after cancellation.

Lucky there's people like yourself who are happy to see it go on, though or they would go bust. :rotfl:

Ive never said im happy or not to see it going on so please stop trying to invent new things that i have said.

People have a choice. You can sign up to a gym for a monthly fee or you cannot. The decision lies entirely with the person who wants to go to a gym.

If you have no sympathy for someone who needs to get out of a contract when they have cancer then you must be happy to see this practice going on.

do you actually bother to read anything or are you just looking about for an argument or to call people unsympathetic to boost your online moral compass? Read the first post i made on this subject.

That would be shockingly bad reporting though. It is not him directly is it its his business..

As the poster above has said though - whilst its not nice that she has cancer it doesnt absolve you from your financial commitments.

Pay the thing today as the email wont get seen till monday at the earliest anyway and then try and claim it back.

more importantly though is to be there for your mam and forget about this as its just unnecessary stress for you both

but they still have financial commitments which need to be paid. Whilst i have all the sympathy in the world for the OP and her problem just where do you draw the line.

Now run along and go and hassle someone else with what you think they said but didnt.

OP you may want to have a look at cancer charities such as macmillan.

    The page below may help

    http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Cancerinformation/Livingwithandaftercancer/Financialissues/Gettingfinancialhelp.aspx

As is listed on the page some charities offer grants to people diagnosed with cancer to help with debts and financial commitments.

I didn't know I had one of those.
Also as a aside to this - what
about the person who breaks a limb? Do they get special dispensation from the get out of contract clause as they wont be able to use the gym either? Or someone else who has an illness that prevents them from attending the Gym? Where do you actually draw the line?

    You also said that.

I cant see how this question is being unsympathetic I think its raising a valid point.

That's your opinion and you are entitled to it.

This forum is often hostile to people when they are down and this really makes me angry.

The OP is obviously very upset and I feel that they should be treated better by some of the people on here.
  • If by treating the OP better you mean everyone should agree that Bannatynes should wave the cancellation fee, with the only justification that she is suffering from cancer, then I'm sorry but I'm not into the 'lets all have a hug' club.

I would have had more sympathy for your argument had you said that the practice of taking a cancellation fee per se was wrong for ANY medical condition that prevents use but to single out cancer sufferers is wrong.

I can understand them being upset however as this is the consumer rights board people advise what rights the OP has in the situation.
In this one I dont think they have any legal right to cancel the gym membership and as has been asked before why is cancer diferent to any other illness that means the contract should be void.

I am not saying I have no sympathy for the illness.
As I posted previously there are charities out there that could help rather than try to take on companies one on one.
