The fact that you would prefer that a person with cancer should pay a £75 fine for leaving a gym because they are no longer able to attend says a lot more about you than about me.

I have Renal Cell Carcinoma and had a tumor the size of a rugby ball removed in July. I can't go on the drug trial becase of the lessions on my lung. And I would just be grateful that they had the decency to do something to help.

    Life isn't fair.

What I mean is I disagree with these vendettas that have been started by a post on an internet forum.
Do we really know the full details of this? for all I know the OP is from a competitor company posting BS.

Thats why its better to stick to the reason for this board consumer rights and not moral rights.

I think the main problem is that a number of Gym companies placed more weight on money grabbing opportunities than moral fibre.

It is no secret that the Office for Fair Trading (OFT) had to slap a number of companies, including Bannatyne, for unfair practices.

I feel the complaints made against Gyms like Bannatyne must be genuine otherwise why would OFT be talking to them and taking legal action against one gym company?

There are number of horror stories about gyms from the media.

I don't see any difference, I feel that gyms should allow any of their members to cancel their memberships without penalty if they have any illness that prevents them from using the equipment.

Personally I've never set foot in a gym, I might have done if I could use them when I want, without having to sign away my first born.

In this sick note society you might as well allow anyone to cancel at anytime.

Absolutely, and if you let one person do it where do you draw the line? ;)

I work for a company who provides loans. If someone was to give us a doctor's letter stating they had cancer, we would write off the loan to ease the burden on them.

It is an awful situation they don't have the compassion and decency to waive the cancellation fee.

I think it's appalling that you are trying to use a previous poster's own experience to set a precedent.

Please name your company - then we'll all take out loans with them and ask for them to cancel if we become ill. After all, I assume they don't do it solely for those with cancer?

Because if they did then they would be discriminating against those who are also ill...

Now i wonder if we will get to find out which company this is because not everyone who gets cancer dies from it so do they then ask for the payments if they survive?

Why should you have to be tied into a contract with a gym anyway?

Why not? There are other gyms out there that let you pay as you go and there are ones that tie you into a contract. Your choice which to use. As with most things in life.
